Hi all. We have a trusty five on board this w/e but 6 is perfect even 7 as it looks freshterly for Sunday currently.

So would anyone like to come along and sail on our Elan 295 currently lying 3rd in IRC class 4?

You would not have to be massively race experienced but some racing experience would be helpful although not vital - average fitness and agility is a must. Position in the cockpit or mast.

Sociable crew, casting off from Warsash just after 9:00, probably two races. All you need to bring is something to eat and something towards the entry fees.

Reply to this and then pm me please.

LucyF can't come afterall so incase you saw her message and thought the spot had gone - it hasn't .....

I bet Flaming has one or two people in his network?

pretty much everyone I know is already sailing. Will keep an ear out for you though.

Have you tried the event website? Lot of people on that.

Would love to but too far away.

Do you really get your crew to contribute to entry fees? Maybe I should be more assertive with mine who do nothing much but moan about how other skippers provide bacon sandwiches.

Different boats run things differently...

I've never sailed on a boat that has asked for a contribution to entry fees, but I know it does happen and obviously those crews are happy with it.

On the boat I currently sail on we have to distract the owner in the bar, otherwise he'd buy all the drinks - and we feel that providing a boat for us to sail on, keeping the equipment maintained to a high level and entering it into races is enough!

Well we only ask for a tenner a day (student discount available) and as the entry fee is £250 (we missed early bird discount) I don't think that's unreasonable. Obviously I hear moanings about not having coordinated crew clothing but I think it's tongue-in-cheek!

Sometimes I get to the bar first, sometimes not.

Flaming - thanks, emailed a few from the event site but so far only can't do replies. However the under-used Y&Y forum has produced someone who pm'd me so we may be ok. Good luck - I see you're leading currently!

Like I said, every boat runs differently and as long as the crew are happy!

Yes, leading currently, and keen on the breezy forecast. Last weekend was frustrating though, we'd have probably taken 4,3 given how light it was, but we lead both races by large margins at the last mark, only to sail into holes.
I hate light wind sailing!

I spent the first race pointing out to the skipper/helm the massive hole near the anchored ship, only to have him go through it twice.

Just looked at the results. You have surprisingly small fleets down there - I was expecting 20 boats at least in each group, given the numbers of boats that are moored in the area.

Hmmm - I think there are a few answers to that. The entry fees are surprisingly high although I'm sure HRSC costs are highish too - however it is sponsored by Garmin and I can't see where their cash comes in. I would rather not have an two environmentally unfriendly Garmin plastic posters on the bow but the SIs say you have to.

Also when you get to the winter series lots of people feel like a break from sailing if they have had a busy season - I've been in this category in the past.

Oh and you can be sure of one or two nasty days out of 8 which can be off-putting.

I've usually found in the winter series that the weather problems are lack of wind rather than too much. In fact the only races we have ever had cancelled have been for flat calms.
