Does anybody own or have owned a Halvorsen 32 Gourmet Cruiser. I'm seriously concidering buying one and would be delighted to have your feedback / comments.
Hi Andy.
John & I looked at one at Southampton a couple or three years ago. I thought it was great.
Although Halvorsen is an old name in boat production, I believe originally in Scandanavia and latterly in Australia, the range currently available here is the Island Gypsy which goes back a few years too. Seem to remember the chap who showed us round the show boat said they are now built in China under supervision.
Excellent finish and timbers. Nice internal steering position, although a flybridge was also available. Super fwd stateroom but guests have to use the saloon.
Some had twin but most were single big Cummins (lovely engine). I would double up on filters and water intakes/ filters for peace of mind.
They also brought out a 38 a little later which went a bit faster and still had the option of one big sleeping cabin, but also option of a side cabin.
Don't expect to sell as readily as your P360. One on Windermere has been for sale a long time (1+ years).
Blue hull is nice but a b*****d to keep clean to your standars!!
You need to order the volvo too!!
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the reply.
John, also said he was impressed with the Halvorsen 32 at the boat show. You were spot on about their history and where they manufacture these days.
By the way I hear the Windermere one sold a few weeks ago.
Do I really need the Volvo too, as it sound as if I will be spending all my time polishing the blue hull.
There's areally nice one for sale in Norfolk with 37hrs at about 60k under new price, we had a look and it is georgeous, bit above our buget though so we had to decline but if we had another 30 available it would not still be for sale.
BTW it has a dirty great Cummins in it.
David
Old mans boat, old mans car!!
PS I have bought a volvo recently, but then I'm old!!
I don't think the blue hull is so much of a problem on the coast. Salt water etc.
Mainly calcium deposits on the Thames.
However, you may become neurotic about chafing between fenders and hull leaving gently faded patches behind each fender. Advise possibly having a nice new set of fender socks just for use in Hythe. Ask Shar to wash them in Lenor!!!
Hope it all goes well.
Hi all
I am in same position considering going to see a single engine version, for using on South Coast but I am concerned may be under powered. Has a single engine 315 hp Cummins....according to broker top speed 16 knots cruising 12 knots
Any views, as not on my original list which has Hardy 32 or Mitchell Mk 3/4 on.
