I just realised that my Coopers halogen oven is a rebranded JML one. Only cheaper.

And thanks, now I know what the mystery metal folding thing is.

I seem to like rebranded products, I bought a rather nice coffee expresso machine from Aldi before Xmas. I realised it was a rebranded Delonghi machine, but £20 cheaper.

I have used FB pies for discus practice in years gone by.

I somewhat tongue in cheek suggested to SWMBO that I was going to buy a JML halogen oven off the shopping channel. I didn't need to as the look I got back from her microwaved everything within a five foot radius.

I wind my missus up at my peril:eek:

My only sailing FB experience was when someone put two pies in the oven on a mooring down in Cornwall, but did not put the bolt in to lock the gimbals. Come time to eat the pies, she opened the oven door without supporting it, oven tilted as they do, and both pies launched onto the cabin sole (arriving upside down).

Her own boat only had a pair of burners, no oven, so no prior experience.

Married yes.

Does she cook for me - No

I do most of the cooking - although we occasionally cook together if we are entertaining.

Each to their own regarding the FB's.

If we eat out of a tin on board its M&S tinned curries etc.

Regarding the indigestion - again, I don't need to comment as the product has spoken for itself - again!

Before anyone thinks I am being a food snob, I have eaten FB pies - and certainly did as a student. I might even do so again, but it depends if I want to remain married or not as SWMBO won't touch the things... In the meantime, I will stick with 'cooking is preparing food from fresh ingredients' and trying to avoid processed and too many pre-prepared foods if possible.

And FB filling still looks like Pedigree Chum to me...

I think your comment about the indigestion is unfair because to be fair I do tend to consume them about 7 in the evening & then go to bed about 9.Pastry is notoriously hard to digest anyway is'nt it?
I particularly like them now they have given up with the OXO gravy that put me right off.If you check through the meat before consumption it is remarkably lean.I don't bother with vegetables or extra chips. One man one pie is the prescribed recipe & if you add a few candles for a romantic environment what possible woman could resist the charm of it;)

Yes to be fair the meat is of better quality than the animal slurry with which, e.g. economy burgers n bangers are made. I think dog food might actually be of a higher standard than the latter... mmm

Surely, FB pies need to be 'hung' for a while to bring out the flavour? Obviously, this starts AFTER the sell-by date, allowing you to lay down (hang up?) a few in a cool cellar for consumption at leisure.

I understand 2003 was a fine year, and they should be ready soon..

If you really want to impress get some" Princes "Steak in a tin ,and a pack of frozen flaky pastry Place the contents of the tin into a small casserole dish with an upside -down egg cup in the centre of the dish(there is already enough gravy ) just cover with the pastry after defrosting and rolling it .Serve with stringless runner beans chopped into 3/4" squares ,baby carrots ,and broccoli or cauliflower florets. A nice Rose' or Red wine to your taste, and a chocolate/vanilla ice cream(Vienetta) for a dessert.
Beats any FB job hands down and the steak is as tasty as fillet!
