Haggling in Northern Europe.

I once looked at a boat in Holland with a view. IIRC the idea was that the surveyors there were far more proactive for the client there and did some serious haggling on your behalf, based on the condition of the boat and the costs of repair.
I've only ever known one surveyor in this country to take that approach. He was great.

I bought a Dehler 35 in Holland 19 years ago, it was owned by a German guy, we had a gentle haggle via De Valk, the broker, but the key different thing for me was that having had a survey the few issues picked up we're dealt with prior to the deal being finalised at the price we'd agreed rather than here where it seems we expect the price to be reduced

More than 20 years ago, I bought a boat in Sweden. The haggling was all very gentlemanly, good humoured and well mannered. We both negotiated hard and came away with a win-win. A Surveyor produced a fine report written for me in English.

The boat was at a good GBP price due to the exchange rate of the day. I kept it for 3-4 years and sold it for around 30% profit.
