Go gently - not much skill/knowledge here on electronics. Have Raymarine AIS receiver and it feeds into a pair of the original E80 plotters which dont show the latest virtual AIS eg at Cherbourg approach. Would like to upgrade to the Matsutec unit - would this work OK as a replacement for the Raymarine and would the E80 then display the full range of AIS targets? Also would I need aditional GPS/VHF connectivity over what I have now.

Please dont advise me to get a professional in - dont worry I will but just want to know if I am barking up the wrong tree

Can’t comment on the e80, but I have that matsutec set up on board with its own aerial/antenna on the push pit and its own gps dongle. It worked perfectly out the box plugged into openplotter, but does need a pc to program in the mmsi etc number if your a mac user.

Would happily recommend

I have a Matsutec 12' plotter / AIS engine, and this displays on my C80 display, via NMEA0183, but the Raymarine has to be set to high speed on the comms. It does get its positional data too from the Matustec, so should work.
