Just reading this months MBY again and spotted the Guy Couach article. I had one go past me a few weeks ago. We eneded up in the same marina overnight. I'm not quite sure what to make of it. Is it ugly or interesting?
I saw it at Cannes. That's hull #1 of this model afaik
It's interesting, and better than Guy Couach's previous stuff in the 22-24m sector, and a considerable step forward for them (eg bonded glass and other nice improvements) but still ultimately it's a bit craap, and quite ugly inside. The saloon is particulary slabby and ugly, though you could work with them to redesign the furniture and improve that They're a funny builder - people in France go on about their high quality but when you actually get up close and see their awful detailing you realise they aren't high quality at all.
Whenever I've seen Couach boats, they've always looked a bit narrow beamed which makes the accommodation a bit pinched. IMHO not a serious contender against the big Italian and Brit yards
Couach are not the usual boat yard, a lot of military experience comes into them. They are one of the few builders who build a boat from the hull up.
They have very good fast hulls which would put to shame most other branded yachts in rough seas. I always had a spot for them.
Anyways a few years ago in Genoa show it was a Force 7 Gale Easterly, and the only yard which did sea trials was them, Italcraft 70, and a Baia 63.
The rest stayed inside as nice floating palaces.
These new models look more stylish modern but I am more a fan of their tough looking nineties decade ago stuff.
On the finishing front JFM is spot on, though you would not buy a Couach just for that.
Still the new models are pretty much custom so it seems one can do what he wants.
