Hello to All....

I am new here but I thought I would post some information about a recent issue I had and hopefully the information may help others with the same problem.

I have a Searay 270 Sundancer, which has a Guest M-100 remote spotlight mounted at the bow. The sealed beam lighting unit was broken on the boat and I had a difficult time finding a replacement.

I discovered that the replacement part number had been discontinued and I couldn’t find a replacement.

However, after some research I discovered that the sealed unit is a GE H9405. I eventually found the number printed on the back of the unit.

I then discovered that this is exactly the same unit used in a Jabsco remote spotlight, which does have available spare parts.

I found that ASAP Supplies Ltd (www.asap-supplies.com), stocked the part, a Jabsco spot light unit JAB-18753-0178. After some great help from a guy called Matthew at ASAP, I ordered the replacement part and I am pleased to say that all of my work paid off and it fits perfectly, as it is the same part!

I also had trouble finding out how to take the sealed beam unit out of the spotlight, I couldn’t find the instructions to do this anywhere. So if anyone is also struggling, the molding which surrounds the sealed beam unit, is actually a clip out bezel and behind it are the screws to get the unit out. I took some pictures if anyone needs to see how this works.

I hope this helps anyone struggling with the Guest M-100 spotlight

Thanks for posting, and welcome to the forum. In fact Guest was acquired by Jabsco some years ago, which explains why you couldn't find any original Guest spares. The other common failure with these units is the joystick controller, which fails internally. Replacements are, unfortunately, crazy expensive.

Thank you Jimmy.

I didn't know that, it took me a while to get there with the spotlight problem. I look forward to sharing my experiences and picking up some information along the way with the forum.....Derek

Hi Dan....
I don't know for certain but I would suspect a new unit would be fine running from the original joystick. Mine has 6 wires, two for each motor on the lighting unit and then two for the power supply to the lamp. As you move the joystick, it mechanically switches the motors on or off. It is not complicated, or electronically based, so it should be fine. I hope this helps....Derek

Thanks Derek - I appear to have got lucky this morning though as a Norwegian chandlery have one m-100 in stock and subject to checking on shipping cost it looks quite cheap at <£150 including a new lamp unit, cabling and new joystick control panel.

If you don't need the joystick panel I'll buy it off you.
