Guernsey trip

Set off at 9am Sunday out of Lymington in great conditions, the variable 2-3 was right, so after the tiny
bit of tidal chop short of the needles conditions were superb. Hit the Alderney races at 13.30 at slack, no
probs, and arrived about 14.30 in St Peter Port. Dominic (depsol) came out to meet us and escort us in.
Got the 18.30 flight back to Southampton and home buy 21.40.
I can't thank Dom enough he was more than generous in collecting us and all our gear from the waiting
pontoon, and then dropping us off at the Airport. Next time over I'll be staying the night and will treat
him to an evening out. CGN

Re: what total lies!

This can't be right! tell us about the bit when the boat engines made a funny noise but it was someone banging the saloon doors. And the rib fell in, folowed by the lunch. And then the navigator pointed towards the Needles and said "is that the Isle of Wight?" And then a bit nearer france there a boat with a big flag so praps they were ion trouble so zoomed over to help but the flag meant that they had divers down oops. And then you went past guernsey and on to Jersey cos the nav person got confused and they are both named after jumpers. Come on! Nobody ever goes on a boat to Guernsey, and then comes back with *nothing" happening in between other than the boat driving. The furthest uneventful mission I have ever been on is to the office coffee machine, and even then it was only the once.

Hi Dom it was a shame we did'nt get to go to Herm, next time I'll come over in my boat and stay a couple
of nights so you can show me some local cruising. Your right with that time to kill we did have a
"rather good time" at the bar in the GYC I guess it must have been obvious. They even let us plug
the PC in to load some software while we were there.
Don't forget anyzing goes wrong and I publish the pics.
best regards CGN

Re: what total lies!

Hi tcm it was a delivery trip in Predator 56, not really just an Aqua Bell 33 with single 300hp Mercury
which coped very well, 15-16 knts on gps 19 plus in what small race there was.
Spent an hour on the flybridge mid trip basking in the Sun, believe it or not it was really quite warm.
Saw quite a few ships so spent time practicing taking bearings for collision avoidance.
I was assisting a friend with the delivery he's a yachtmaster instructor so knows the area well. Interestingly
we also had a superb nav aid on the PC. (You know how Dom is famous for mentioning S*****n well)
I have mentioned and recommended Tsunamis99 before, and do so again.

Oh one problem yes I remember Phil got his collar felt at the Airport cos they spotted his dividers
on the Xray machine, which were in his hand luggage with his charts. (he had an out of date Imray C33
chart but he got away with that).

Oh and I had trouble finishing my bloody Mary in time cos the damn things lands at S'Hampton seemingly
just after its taken off.

Oh missed all the comforts of my boat, wireless, CD's,kettle, two engines, toilet you can stand in to
have a pee etc. Sorry but that's as bad as it gets no disasters to report unlike Mr Tuckwell

Re: Hmm. Pics please!

This is no good at all. Not the standard of journalism we expect. When coliholic flew off the jetrib at the w/e he sort of tried to hope that we wouldn't publish the pics and we promised that we wouldn't tell a soul at all, well not until Monday.

BUT your trip seems to have been riddled with dull yachtmaster expertise, trusting friendship and no pics or ridiculous stories.....

.... such as when coliholic suggesting that we grind down the gin bottle with the Dremel instead of open up the hole made for it, which actually I did say I wouldn't mention. Or me buying leopard-print tablecloths in Cannes, which thankfully he promised that nobody would get to hear about. Or the two trips to Macdonalds in between eating/buying posh french food to make the skipper think that we weren't slobs. Or coliholic me leering off the back of the boat whilst all the passers by in Port Pierre Canto shook their heads at the crap drunken crew on boats (us) these days. Or the happy times in French shops where we all look French since (with the new Euro) everyone is like the English and gets change out of their pocketsand says duh. For example.

I found two yacht clubs in St Peter Port. Or should I say one grot club and one yacht club. The best one was past the place where they have the market, then turn left, up a bit, down a bit, opposite a castle thingy and near a great chandlery. It served good food and had a wonderful view - the sea was BLUE !! Never seen that before in English waters.

Yeah, the other one is the RCIYC which was all a bit dingy and sad the last time we were there and closed at about 10pm. there was only one other person in there on a saturday night- hope it's a bit livelier now.

Went there in November last year and yes it is a bit run down but everyone was very friendly and even though we were only visitors we were included when lots of free nibbles appeared.

Don't really care about appearances if the welcome is warm.
