Can anybody offer their experiences of Gruissan Port?

We are thinking about a change from Lagos and the Gruissan annual rates seem very attractive.

TIA

Gruissan

Are you a member of the Cruising Association? If so the Mednet Forum has a topic ' Places to leave a Boat August/Winter' with a reply from Chris Grundy who is based there. I will contact him for the OK to give you his e-address.

If you can't get into Gruissan, try Leucate. They have some empty basins there which could easily be kitted out if the demand arises. Also get your name on the list for La Grande Motte - there is a planned extension which would add 800 berths. Work might start next year, or the one after, or later, or not at all......

Thanks for that everybody.

I had not considered that the marina would be full as the website gives no indication of any waiting list - merely the attractive prices.

Perhaps I should have realised having a friend who waited one year for a berth in Sete and two years in Agde.

We live and learn!

Waiting list for all the French Med marinas is between 3-5 years.

If however you turn up and ask for a winter-place you'll always get it (sometime at the same pro rata as the annual berth rate).

For a permanent berth - take your place in the queue.

Hi All,

I can assure you that you cant just ask for a winter place and get one. We asked at about 8 ports and all were full for winter.

This included Gruissan.

There we moored for a couple of nights and when we went to pay they charged us a more expensive band, and when I asked why the lady said "You have a FAT boat" !!

We did spend a few nights anchored in the etang, Free and safe but we were visited by the customs boat.

Best wishes,

Paul

Gruissan good and bad!

I found Gruissan very comfortable in 2003.
The village on a small hill nearby has a painter's studio. The artist is named Urban, and paints very well.
I was examining a painting there which looked uncannily like a scene from Connemara or Co. Mayo, Ireland.
He was there so I asked him!
He is a friend of a very noted naturalist Michael Viney, and spends time in the West of Ireland.
Small world.

Also a good winery on the way to the village, just over the bridge!
Argeles-sur=Mer has good marina, and good hard standing at the Chandlers, however it goes dead in the winter months.
Bacares has some fun types in its Circle du Voile, and they seem to get a discount when visiting other local marinas. You have to hang around these places to get the local slant.
Mosquitoes are a deterrant, and outnumber humans by a big factor!
