grp but classic lines - suggestions please

Maybe I should have made that clearer - a Sparkman & Stephens Swan 36 should be within your budget, the newer model, certainly not. As the thread has progressed though, I think your space requirements might rule out much of the "classic plastic".

I wont give up that easily. I'll think of some arguments to persuade them such as 'you wont get as seasick in one of these older long keeled boats' stuff like that. Any other ideas?

Re: Low maintenance?

hi ive had all types of boats and the two that i hads lest trouble whith was aferro one very big and very cheap to buy it had sailed round the world twice and took us all over the planet to. the other one was steel 65years old this year and still going strong. simple to fix buy damage plate weld on takes no time at all all you got to do is keep eye on it and sand and paint now and again no big deal. pitty you wernt over here you could buy any type of boat you wanted with that type of money here.i agree with the others about teak decks too much upkeep and nearly always ends up costing one an arm and a leg to sort it all out hope this helps happy sailing

Nicholson 39 might be a good compromise? Twin heads and aft cabin etc, whilst still not a bad looking boat. I think there might be a couple of owners on the forum who could tell you more. In the meantime, Kings Yacht Agency have an on-line Nicholson archive. Expect to pay slightly more than £50k for one of these, although I know of at lrast one that changed hands for less.

With Southampton Boat show most of the yacht brokers in the area from Portsmouth to lymington have a secondhand show! Visit them and see whats available or what takes your eye!

yup will definitely do Southampton this year.

Accidently came across Hunter Mystery 35 report which seems very positive about combination of trad and modern - views anyone?

Price is double the figure you mentioned.

Definitely not trad. under water.

Accomodation smaller than you indicated.

Re: Here it is...

yes I think that Nich 35 in Lym would suit me fine and I might just take a look (my daughter is at Soton Uni so I get the excuse to bum around marinas down there when 'visiting her').

Problem is how do I sell the smaller accomodation to my wife. I am begining to realise that chartering bigger modern boats wasnt such a good idea after all..... 'how many showers does it have dear ! does it have an electric main halyard! etc I'm chartering a Bav 44 in a couple of weeks , perhaps I should ring up and change it for a 29 footer without telling her so then the Nich 35 will look roomy.

thanks for the help , I'll get there eventually but Its going to be a tough sell, i can see that.

Thanks.

I just looked at the ex- Dartmouth Morgan Giles they have for sale and revised my ideas of my own boat's worth - upwards, very fast!

Re: Here it is...

How many showers does your missus take at any one time then?

Besides which, if you're bumbling around coastal cruising, most showers can be taken in yacht clubs or marinae where you can wash the taste of shampoo out of your ears with a glass of foaming local brew.

Re: Here it is...

yes I totally agree ....... on the positive side she was confirmed 'non sailor' 10 years ago now she's wanting to buy a boat so we can sail more often and go further so I must be doing something right!

I did a search on "Boats for Sale" top of the page. Criteria: used, sail, 10m - 12m, up to 75k euros, situated in UK, Ireland, France or Belgium.

It produced 463 results.
