GRIB 1 graphical readers

Sadly it looks as though the Ugrib site is broke.

The clamour from the Ugrib forum of people who have been refused verification, persuaded me that my case was not an isolated one.

Has anyone had experience of Win 32 graphical readers OS XP and above.

The problem has arisen because the old box has had a terminal motherboard failure and I've had to purchase this MSI mini-notebook clone. It's running Win 7 Home Premium, an impressively opaque OS, and I've not yet installed Linux - 27Gb download on the Kalamata municipal WLAN is an unlikely feat.

Have you looked at the free reader from http://www.grib.us/

Not sure about it working on Windows 7 but it works on other Windows flavours

Long may it last for you - be prepared (fellow CA member) for it to suddenly misbehave.

I'll try and keep people posted on MedNet.

I use the Windows version of zyGrib at home, and the Linux version on my laptop.

It works fine here. One issue is make sure your computer's date is correct, if it isn't UGRIB won't work.

Grib stopped working on my PC some months ago, but was still OK on laptops.

Have just reinstalled the reader on my PC and it works OK. Weird....

Don't use any local WLANs, just make sure it's the same computer through the same ISP.

Downloaded the Win version of Zygrib and up and running OK.

Thought it was only available for Linux.

Old Dell 8600 terminal motherboard failure, so no dual booting. Bought this CULV mini-laptop with only Win 7 - dreadfully opaque OS,
but quick. Different front end to the Win 7 beta I tried.

GRIB.US broke for me. It still works on the old laptop that I used for the original registration but I can't install it on any new computers. I have changed to zyGrib. I think it is better than GRIB.US.

More heavyweight, so far more information, more timely, but download package is about x3 the size of Ugrib.
So not good if you're on restricted bandwidth or limited download capacity.

I find the zygrib instructions in French much more explicit than in English.

Serious point: I'm sure the author would welcome a proper translation of the full instructions. Especially by a native English-speaking user of the software.

zygrib's come a long way since he first announced it on fr.rec.bateaux

100% functionality. Absolutely normal output. Boat next door confirms that he is loading data too.

I must say that I have never had any problem with getting UGrib. I am at present in Atlanta Georgia and up it came as ever.

I must also say, that for preference, I use Saildocs email service which is more flexible, precisely the same data of course, cheaper if using a cell phone/modem for repeat requests when cruising. Even with UGrib I often use the Saildocs viewer which is,a better projection, has latitude/longitude lines and easier to page through.

This thread reminded me just in time that I had not loaded Ugrib onto the new laptop. I did so yesterday, the only change being that this time I had to register my e-mail address, a new precaution on their part I think. I tested it and it downloads fine.

I get the "confirm email address (or WTtE) message quite often I put it down to my request for service coming from changing net access/network locations. As soon as I input "the required", all reverts to normal.

I had that for a while, then a period of 401 errors at download stage, but all ok now and I moved to another wi-fi provider today as well with no ill-effects.
