green oak supplier

Does anyone know of any suppliers of green oak suitable for bending to replace cracked timbers in Essex. Alternatively is there a more easily available timber I could use . I've tried general timber suppliers but I might as well have asked for a stoat sandwich from the looks I received. Are there any timber suppliers who specialise in supplying wooden boat owners , and yes I know of Robbins but I don't think they cater for bending . The boat is approx 18' ,built approx 1910 for fishing on the Blackwater. The planking is mostly fine but needs new timbers , keel ,transom, floors, rig ,stem and sternpost etc.

i have been recommended to try john hall sawmills of bleasby nr nottingham, they are mentioned in an excellent restoration article which includes the use of green oak which can be found at www.bluedome.co.uk i hope this info helps. let me know how you get on. cheers ian

Speak to Jim Dines at Downs Road Boatyard, Maldon or James Byam Shaw, Heybridge Basin. Jim has restored a number of Colne smacks and workboats, is a font of knowledge with regard wooden boats, particularly old workboats. James is an excellent shipwright again another font of knowledge and experience.
