We went to Bradwell for Sunday evening, and had the usual excellent couple of pints of Adnams.
What is really noteworthy though is the Venison steak cooked beautifully rare, very tender, with a fantastic sauce and fresh vegetables cooked to perfection. Stunning, and what value at £11.00
Even my jaded pallet was knocked out.

However, our guest star for the weekend, Pete_Cooper of this forum had fetched down local Scottish cheeses, which we had with a passable port back on board FC. I have to say that the quality of Scottish cheese has rocketed these last few years, and we had soft, blue and cheddars to match anything the French can knock out.

Ahem. As a local Somerset person may I ask how long the French have been knocking out Cheddars? Hmm?

I know the roads are narrow and deliveries uncertain to Somerset, but the French have been doing this for ages since.

Thats why we call them the Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys, a soubriquet I am sure you would all wish to avoid in Somerset.

The Scots cheeses have been super ever since I first went to Scotland - which is a many decades ago.

There used to be a cheese shop in Tain... wonderful local stuff ... I wonder if it's still there!

No, there's one place that does still make it in the town itself but there are loads of farms all around the area that make genuine cheddar cheeses. The caves in Cheddar are actually where they all took their cheeses to mature.

Venison steak - a personal favourite - must attempt to drop by.

Scottish cheese
Is that something like German humour, Dutch beer, Italian scotch and Belgian wine?
You know, it does exist, but it's not really any good. :D;):p

Can I add another vote for The Green Man? Fantastic pub. When we first arrived the menu showed duck breast and I had decided that was for me, but they changed the board and the venison appeared. It was really excellent as Jim says - good sized portion, a wide range of veg(I remember lots of new potatoes, carrots, green beans, mange tout, cauliflower) there may have been more and none of them were mushy. The beer was of course wonderful as well - possibly only bettered by Jim's Port!

Fantastic sevice and drink provided, a snip at £23 a head.
Though they did have a power cut for half hour, but did not ruin time there.
