As a new member I am astounded at the level of knowledge availble here. Please help with this one; I am after some bottle green fenders or fender socks, sizes A1 and A3 (sperical). Does anybody know where i could get hold of these now without waiting 2-3 weeks for them to be made? Thanks in advance to all...

Firstly are you sure you want "Green"

Secondly, the wife and I recently made some fender sox from blue fleece purchased from t'market cost about 4 quid to make six and look the dogs danglers. Didnt need any elastic cos it stretches, so just stitched a tube shape and jobs done. Took about half an hour to make and about three hours to work out how to thread and how to work the sewing machine. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Great idea..but what's wrong with green (forest green) - they will match my canopy! Is this not the done thing, perhaps I should just have plain white. Does anybody have strong views on fender colour etiquette?

Well if the canopy is green I suppose there's no harm in it /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
In fact it may look quite good. Anyway get down t'market and get some fleece you know it makes sense, look at the saving.

Great idea my friend - I'll let you know how I get on - just hope the colour doesn't run down my nicely polished hull!

I was worried about that but I can assure you that ours have not run at all, may I suggest you put them in the bath first just to stop any worry first time it rains.
If I may also add a few tips should you decide to "run" a few up.
Make the tube about 30mm longer each end than the part of the fender that starts to decrease in diameter that way it stays on better without sliding around.
Make them about 50mm smaller than the diameter of the fender. That is of course assuming there as stretchy as our material.
Make one at a time from start to finish that way you can adjust the sizes to get it right.
Have fun - Ian

Yes did try Norfloat who passed me onto their sister company. They are calling me back today with pricing and a delivery date (they will have to be specially made). Will let you know cost vs going down the market and cutting-up a fleece or two. If anybody has any other interesting alternatives to buying expensive fender socks, please let me know. The problem is that I have 2 A1 and 2 A3 with blue tops and they don't match the rest of the boat (forest green canopy etc) Thanks

They will also put your boat name on the fenders if you want. Fender socks look ok for a while but soon get scruffy if not washed and can scratch your gel coat if they get too dirty.

Hope you get what you want.

Boatone, no matter what the others may say, you are the brightest shinning beacon around here. Just got the kit from the website you recommended to do all 4 of them fo £26 and they will deliver tomorrow! Many thanks to you.

Ah the power of google.........a uk site search for 'green fenders' and they came up at number 3.........../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
....but I'll settle for you thinking I'm a minor genius.....

Now, how about a day out on your mates boat showing him how to park it?
