A bit like Spain...between two stools european correctness and latin sense..........proper grotty bars where a glass of wine and a bocadillo would serve well for dinner now we have BiG mACS.......
So YOU are happy to have smoke blown all over you in a restaurant are you? You will also notice that when they're not actually dragging on the thing, they hold it out as far away from their own clothes as possible.
Harry's Taverna back room, November 2011, in comes a cop, in uniform, sits on a stool by the bar, orders a large beer and lights up! And we are supposed to welcome them into the EU and pay all their bills?
Many years ago in Crete, in a hire car with no working fuel gauge, a petrol attendant used a lighter to try and illuminate our tank!!!!!!Nothing wrong with that as long as no naked lights.
No I'm not. If I see people smoking in a bar or taverna I'll go somewhere else.
Leaving your food unpaid for! That must make you very popular. I prefer to make their indiscretion obvious to the perpetrators. That way we at least get to use the taverna again.
Ok Mr MainwaringStupid boy. I look BEFORE I go in.
Don't tell him Pike!![]()
I just love that one!
Voted one of the two best ever lines in popular entertainment, along with 'Infamy, infamy, he's got it infamy!'.
Love the Greeks? yea well another very good reason for a Union of Commonwealth Countries
Anyways, a Question to those that love the Greeks; are you going to pay the 'boat /yacht tax that's likely to be imposed on visiting boats /yachts?![]()
Stupid boy. I look BEFORE I go in.
Yes missed it all, just read it on Yachting press today. Ah well suppose its a case of PAY N STAY or booger off elsewhere.Have you maybe missed all the "discussion" that has taken place already? The general view seems to be to capitulate Chamberlain style.
So what do you do about the ones who come in just after you have ordered and light up?

Is there a smoking ban in the Ionian ?, I did not see one tavern without ashtrays this year. As most Greeks seem to smoke, when in Rome etc.
As of 2010, Greece was the country with the highest rate of tobacco consumption (more than 40%) in the European Union. Since older legislation was not very efficient a new, more comprehensive law was passed. Effective from 1 September 2010, this law prohibits smoking and consumption of tobacco products by other means, in all work-places, transport stations, taxis and passenger ships (in trains, buses and airplanes smoking is already prohibited), as well as in all enclosed public places including restaurants, night clubs, etc., without any exception. Casinos and bars bigger than 300 m2 were given eight months to apply the law.[54] Enforcement of the law is reportedly weak, with most owners of coffee shops, pubs, and restaurants continuing to allow smoking.
But Italians (at least northern Italians) took to it immediately. True most of the restaurants have a covered terrace that, by being outside, gives smokers a place to eat and smoke while those who wish to keep clear from polluted air, sit inside. That's fine for most of the year with warm termperatures, something else when they sink to sub-zero ones as they do in the winter.Interestingly enough nobody smokes in buses and trains. Apparently the law that passed some 40 years ago seemed reasonable and was accepted. OTOH messing with Greeks' fun can be a tough task.
Besides, as more often than not eating and drinking takes place in open air where smoking ban seems ridiculous, shifting from smoking to non-smoking (for the odd cold day) is very difficult.
Apart from the driver!Interestingly enough nobody smokes in buses and trains.
