Interesting sail setting. The jib appears to be pulling while the square sails are backed. Can't see a cone, so she shouldn't be motoring. Was she just tacking?
Yes, great to see her on the water. She was famously photographed about 30 years ago, high and dry on the mud in the bristol channel.
In the first picture she is definitely motoring. I have heard it said that if a sailing boat is proceeding with sails flapping so obviously not propelled by sails it is unnecessary to carry a cone. Any views?

IMHO if you suspect you are surrounded by sailors daft enough not to realise you are motor sailing - it could make sense to hoist one.
I'm lucky enough to have never felt the need - although I suspect someone will advise I've been breaking a regulation or two.
Cheers

the inverted black cone probably has a greater benificial effect on the motoring yachts skipper (reminding him he is a power boat and must give way accordingly) than to other boats under sail in the vicinity ......... it seems many think they can 'pretend' to be sailing and use the rules to their advantage
