I had a spare twenty odd quid in my 'birthday/christmas sailing donations envelope' so ordered myself a heavy duty canvas smock from Newlyn Smocks. I went with the XXL, and it arrived yesterday. Bl00dy hell! I could use it as a boat cover, it's so big. I called them and ordered the XL, and this arrived today. It's much more my size, and will still fit over a jumper/fleece. Excellent quality.

They included a bag for me to send the other one back, and a load of first class stamps too!

Most excellent customer service. No connection, just a happy customer. Recommended.

Hopefully it will be worn in by the time I retire from sailing.

I have three Newlyn smocks. Had them for twenty odd years. A working smock, now covered in paint grease and anti foul, second best smock, faded but not too stained and one for best! They last forever. Superb quality and very nice people to deal with.

I couldn't bring myself to wear them on my gaffer, felt I was overdoing the salty sea dog look. Now I have a CW I think I might get away with it!

My wife recently knitted me a Cornish knitfrock, a sort of pullover made from wool with the lanolin still in it. Knitted on circular needles so no seams. Now all I need is to learn to mumble and I can pass myself off as an 18C Cornishman!

I have two smocks (think they're "Yarmo" ones) with a nice silhouette of Kindred Spirit embroidered on them. I wore one for part of a Tall Ships voyage and so it has some authentic tar stains across the back :)

I like the sound of Sophie19's Cornish jumper. As a kid I used to have a greasy wool pullover that felt about an inch thick (I'm sure I exaggerate) and shrugged off any amount of dinghy-sailing spray. I'd love an adult version, but all the "fisherman's sweaters" I've come across have been a bit weedy by comparison.

We used to get ex Navy sweaters, tight fitting, dark blue and so finely knit (25 rows/inch??) they were practically waterproof. Like all good things, no more.

On the strength of this thread, just taken delivery of two smocks, very pleased with them, they were also kind enough to supply me with some material at a very good price for some bits I want to make for the boat.

Jan couldn't have been more helpful and delivery was ultra quick.
