I posted on here a few days ago about my bimini being damaged by snowfall in the South of France. I sent off the claim form and quote to GJW this morning (by e-mail), together with some photos of the damage, and received the approval this afternoon! Doesn't get much better than that.

Well done, and at this time of year I can only guess that you must have a Santa CLAUSE! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I wonder if someone there reads these forums and saw your thread with the pics of the damage the other day - might explain why they were so quick if they knew who you are.

I think that is a little unfair, in my experience GJW are always very good.

I second that - I claimed 10 years ago for a new canopy - they paid up no quibbles and only made a tiny deduction for "betterment" - because I went from a crappy canopy to a nice custom built one with thick stainless poles not aluminium etc....

we had a guy "bend his prop" and his company would not pay quoting a "speed boat" clause in the policy docs, which stated that they didnt cover "damage to underwater gear" ........... apparantly in tiny writing is the clause apt for boats which do over 17 knts...... mmm this is an F37 hardly a speed boat.

Can I ask fatlady did you pay an extra over on your preiumn form the start to cover such?

No extra premium - standard cover.
I dinged it at low speed on a submerged rock off Porto Vecchio - my stupidity for not looking where I was going. GJW were excellent. I faxed them photos. Local Sunseeker man lifted and repaired it. GJW paid up without demur (less excess).

Similar story here - two weeks after starting to insure with them, we picked up a large bit of rope in Christchurch Bay, which wrecked all four props. GJW authorised the repairs the same day, and the boat was fixed 48 hours later. Within a few days the cheque arrived. Super people.

The 17 knot clause is fairly common and normally removed if you ask for no extra cost. I have done with both GJW and Haven Knox. Also the bit about leaving the boat unattended at anchor sometimes needs to be clarified as it generally means in open water, not moored of your local beach.

Came to say adiós on Monday but you had gone.

I have also had an excellent response from GJW when someone hit my boat in a marina, although they (the hitter) eventually admitted liability and paid up.

The measure of an insurance company is not how low their rates are, but how they act when you need them. GJW appear to be made of the right stuff.

Goodo. I saw your bimini and it looked like a plate of stainless steel spaghetti /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My father had a similar small clain on a GJW policy 10yrs ago and they were great then, no quibble; 10/10

Pantaenius are the same fair-players by the way
