Covid -19 - Marina Closure

The positive signs from the Government yesterday were that we are past the peak of the Coronavirus pandemic. That's great news. However there are NO changes to the lockdown rules as yet. The marina is still closed for leisure use and you should not travel here.

We are looking at allowing some work to be undertaken by our boatyard lifting team and contractors in the very near future, further details to be provided very shortly.
 
Well you are not privy to the info I am , if you would like to have a wager , say a bottle of malbec

"Another week goes by in these extraordinary times and we’re starting to hear whispers of positive news coming from the UK government. This means we can start firmly looking towards the future.

We would like to thank you for your continued support in restricting yourselves to necessary travel only. We also want to reassure you that we are continuing to look after your boats and are working hard to keep our facilities and equipment in peak condition so that things are shipshape for when you’re able to return to boating.

It’s clear to us that as soon as the lockdown is lifted, and we’re able to let you and your crew visit and use your boat again, we will have a huge demand for lifting and launching. That’s why we’re working up a plan to allow us to efficiently handle these requests, while ensuring we work within the various restrictions that are likely to remain with us in order to keep a safe and working facility.

On this basis, we are planning to start working at our boatyards again as soon as we can, and to also provide contractors access to boats ashore and afloat in order to handle the backlog of maintenance and repair work. The schedule below sets out the dates we are working towards.

We’re acutely aware of how frustrating the current position is, with boat owners desperately wanting to gain access to their pride and joy. Please rest assured that we will be monitoring government directives on leisure boat owners closely so that we can reunite you with your boats just as soon as is safe to do so. In the meantime, we are continually checking and making sure everything is okay with all boats at our marinas, and we will continue to keep you updated.

If you have any requests or particular requirements for your boat, just drop us a line or give us a call and we will do what we can to help.

Finally, we send our very best wishes to you and your family and we hope to see you back at your marina and out on your boat as soon as possible.

Seen so much on here concerning marinas not allowing owners in to check on boats etc. We are based on the east coast and ever since the lockdown we have not had any 'barriers' put up by the marina in being able to check boats etc. etc. ours isn't the only one either. Others here on the east coast have been allowing owners to check boats but not to work on them.

What I would say is they have also publicised government guidelines on travel so its down to the individual if they get stopped. It's at times like this when you seriously look at what the marina is doing for its customers and whether they support their customers and I certainly don't have any questions about my marina having my interest to heart.

Yes but they do anything for social distancing, it is their responsibility.

I dont wish to embarrass the individuals. The Marina staff noticed some boat owners on the hard and told them to leave. They have every right to do so as far as I can determine but I am at best a poor armchair solicitor. People had misunderstood the term tenant as applying to them as they rented a berth but on clarification it was meant as building tenants. Businesses on the Marina property.
 
The upshot of this is based on the misunderstanding I queried our HM when he would follow suite. Our hard is much smaller and practically empty. He said the hard had never been officially closed (but has been monitored) but it was a matter for the North Wales police to determine if your travel was necessary. (And he is / has the legal accreditations to evaluate) He has reviewed my requirement of reassembling the two short blocks inside my boat as within the guidelines and as I have no need to travel has agreed dispensation for me to work on my boat (internal works). However I am not quite sure I want to just yet, but it's a nice to know.
 
There is a question about people working on their own boats as to owners . The contractors have to have insurance to cover any damage to 3rd party, where boat owners won’t have insurance , won’t have electrical equipment pat tested , won’t have access equipment checked properly . I don’t want to stop people working on their own boats but if there was a serious accident. The marina would have some responsibility as it is on their premises . Just say some one is grinding next to my boat and it damages my hull what happens.

But exactly the same applies at any time. It’s no different during lockdown.
