Great Forum Relay Challenge is GO!!!!

Time for my report.

I managed to intercept Peter and photograph him from a motorway bridge.

Then, came the official handover. Unfortunately the band didn't turn up, so we kept the ceremony low key.

There was a flurry of photographic activity on the motorway, but so that the plods don't see them, I have not posted them here.

I drove straight to Preston and had a short wait for Ian.

He wasted no time in starting to strip the trailer, until I pointed out to him that he would have plenty of time to for that tonight.

As I had no time to do it, I pointed out some choice pieces I wanted.

I managed to stop him driving off with his tail gate open! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

2251901303_93f27e4f04.jpg

and last saw him heading South on the M6 hoping he found the junction to turn round and head North.

Don't blame me if it turns up in Southampton again.

The Great Trailer Rally has begun - the trailer headed north at 15.00 this afternoon.

Even Powerskipper was there to it off!

Sorry that cannot possibly be Powerskipper.....

She hasnt got a fag lit /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Or did you continue with the new years give up /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

And in a timely manner I can now report that it is safe and well and in Carlisle.

We had an uneventful trip up the M6, though if anyone sees my numberplate between Preston and Carlisle I would appreciate a pm.

When I said I had plenty of land to store it if necessary, what I should have said is I only have 150' of concrete apron beside the house so it might be a bit of a squeeze.

So it has managed to travel the length of England unscathed and waits patiently for Alistair to collect.
It tows well, however, may I suggest that once the boat is loaded, something the size of a furniture van will be adequate for motive power.

Cheers all

HF

I'm afraid to say she has not kept up with the resolution. She is still making like she's a old cruise liner - ugh! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Seems like only yesterday I saw it heading off down the A27. Well done all, and well done to Alistair for such an inovative bit of fun. Can't wait to see it safely "home"

[/ QUOTE ] And I even went to check your cable ties were tight - which they were.

Pointless saying this now, but I will anyway, but I nearly put a turn of duct tape around the plate, but we were both anxious to get going, so didn't.

Hey Major, no worries its not massive in the big scheme of things. But as the scots would say ' i wusnae in the place but twa hours when bang, awa' went sixpence' That number plate cost me nearly two pounds in materials plus time to stick it all together. Oh its not the money its the sentimental value, it was neary two months that I had it.
I found myself supporting scotland ultimately, especially after the daft italian awarded williams the try.

Cheers

Nice one guys.Really shows the power of the forums and the amount of goodwill there is about. Restores my faith in human nature.

Over on the Bristol Channel forum before Christmas one guy towed a trailer from Bristol to Cardiff for someone he didnt know who had a company car and couldnt get a towbar fitted.

Great report and very funny too, Major!

Will there be any bit of the trailer left for me to pick up in the morning?? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I love the pic from the motorway fly over its very good. Any others, could you per chance e-mail some to me /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Thanks.

This event proves to me what such a great forum this is, very friendly and very generous. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Am really enjoying myself on here at the moment. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thankyou very much Chris for doing a stretch for me, for being part of the team! You account and post are very funny.

Great stuff Ian, Glad to hear your trip went well, but sorry to hear you lost your plate.
I'll get Callum to make one up with his crayons and bring it to you tomorrow, not sure if it would pass a DVLA check thought!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm beginning to worry about the size of this thing, everyones commenting on its size! Yikes!!

I know my car will tow it fine EMPTY, but with the boat on it, I don't have a vehicle to move it with! I really do regret getting rid of my double cab pick-up last year, it would have been brilliant for this job.
Funny you should mention I'd need a furniture van to tow it full, We have 3 furniture shops and 5 furniture vans, sadly none of them have towbars!!
But unfortunatly the boat is for sale, and if i need to move it, I can borrow my brothers 4x4.

I'm very much looking forward to tomorrow, but am panicking in the fact thats everyone has done so well, and its now down to me, I hope I don't let the team down! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I'll be leaving at 7am, so should be with you around 9am or just after, I hope thats not too early.

Thankyou very much for today, Its very much appreciated.
See you tomorrow.

Cheers

Al.

My man with the duplicate trailer is on his way to do the switch , don't worry , Al won't even notice that the one he ends up with is a heap /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nine!! Jheezo you are getting earlier and earlier. I had better be off to bed now then.
I shall leave the door open and if you could just nip up the stair with a couple of cups of tea when you get here that would be nice. Both milk but no sugar and there are some biscuits in the jar on the counter top. Dont make too much noise hitching up either.

Nine will be fine Al. See you then

Cheers

I would just like to say this has been a great thread and a great idea from start to finish. Glad to see everything going well.

All involved deserve a pat on the back.

I nominate this thread for three Oscars;

Best Starring role; to "the Trailer"

Best Supporting role; "the Sleeping Guard"

Best Soundtrack; the guffaws of laughter inn my household alone justify this.

SWMBO was so tickled, she suggested popping down to an M6 Bridge N of Stafford, but we weren't able to find out when you would be passing, so please accept a "Virtual Wave" instead. & thanks for showing that we aren't all idiots` on these fora!
