Today is the day, The trailer leaves Southampton to make its way north.
The start of the Great Forum Relay Challenge.
Challenge How to get a trailer from Southampton to North Ayrshire with the minimum of fuss.

The trailer is currently at Atlas Marine in Southampton, PeterandJeanette is picking it up later this afternoon.
The 1st handover, Peter says he's really looking forward to his afternoon Tea with David(Solitaire). Don't forget the clotted cream scones David! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
The trailer is ready for the off. It has all new axles, brakes, bearing, wheels and tyres, hitch assembly, carpeted bunks and other new bits and bobs.
The YBW.com club burgee has arrived with Solitaire(no thanks to the royal mail) and will be attached to the trailer. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't know Peters route home but i presume it will be M3, A34, M40? Am i correct?
The trailer will be overnighting with Peter at his home, Peter has promised to sleep on the bunks overnight to stop anyone stealing it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Oh, and I gather this trailer run has also turned into a 'Bog Run', with another forumite asking Peter to pick up 2 sea toilets with the trailer before leaving southampton!!!??? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Saturday morning, Peter is taking it up the M6 to Keele services where he is meeting Majorcatastrophe.
The 2nd handover, Trailer swapped vehicles, number plates transferred, pictures taken and handshake done, its back onto the northbound M6 for the trailer. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
The Major is heading straight north, not via his house, and not via a workshop to pinch bits off the trailer either /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif . Straight north up the M6 to Preston, where it is arranged that he'll meet Hugh_foulis.

The 3rd Handover, Majorcatastrophe is meeting Ian(Hugh_foulis) somewhere! Somewhere near Preston! I'm not sure where exactly, But they know all the plans. Again hopefully its a case of swap it over on vehicles, change plates, remove bogs, handshake and Pictures taken, then back onto the northbound M6 hopefully with all wheels still attached and pointing in the right direction! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Ian is taking it to his house just south of Carlisle, where again its having a sleepover.

The 4th Handover! Sunday morning, Me myself and I, am doing the last leg, I will be leaving north Ayrshire at approx 7am, and driving over the border(note to self, Remember Passport!) straight to Ians place, about 2 1/2 hrs or so, where I'll enjoy a full cooked english breakfast upon arrival /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif , before inspecting my new wheel!(what if i don't like it?? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ), then doing the mandatory swapping of vehicles, number plates, pictures taken and handshake.
Back on the road and its up the M6, M74, M73, M8 and finally the A737 home.
Once home, Its a case of reverse it into my drive, lock it and chain it all up, and straight back out the door, as we have to take Callum to his cousins 4th birthday party at 2pm.

The trailer will be going to the marina in a couple of weeks, where the boat will be lifted out, and lowered onto the trailer while we set it up for the boat.
There then begins another chapter.

So thats the plan for the trailer over then next 3 days, I've got my fingers crossed that all goes well, but am relaxed in knowing that its an all new running gear, so hopefully no problems with bearings or such.

If you see an old trailer with shiney new axles and wheels, possibly with 2 sea toilets strapped to the bunks, somewhere on the motorways mentioned, please give it a toot on the way past, and wave to the driver, and even take a picture of it if safe to do so! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There will be pictures and news of the whole event added to this thread over the next few days, I know its a long shot but if anyone spots it on a web cam, please post the pics here too, and the usual comments from you all are always welcome. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Also lookout for a mention of this event in a future edition of MBM.

A huge thankyou to everyone involved:
Nick at Atlas Marine,
David at Mendez Marine,
Peterandjeanette,
Majorcastrophe,
Hugh_foulis,
YBW.com Forums,
and SWMBO.

Let the relay begin!!!/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, whatever.

I envisage my takeover from Peter to be like the early scene from The Life and death of Colonel Blimp, where the Prussian officers do the elaborate saluting and shaking of hands scene with the British officers. So, I am not sure if I should wear my full and splendid uniform, medals and sword, or jeans.

Mind you, what with the work I have to do in my workshop before heading to Preston, maybe jeans is the best option.

Where are the bogs being dropped off?

I dunno!!!!
When i was chatting with Peter yesterday, he mentioned a certain 'T' forumite had asked if he could pick-up 2 sea toilets, I thought he said he was to leaving them with you? Maybe not. Anyway thats not part of our relay, and if they are still on the trailer when i pick it up, there'll be 2 Sea toilets going cheap on Ebay next week!/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cheers

Ah!, I am with it now.

I do indeed take possession of the said bogs, I then store them at my home until next week, when I take them back Darn Sarth to that there London, when I go for my annual St Valentine's outing of a show and a feed and anything else on offer. Erhum.

Having convinced my valentine that the said bogs are not a bizarre present, I will then take them to Nottingham on the Sunday to a pub where I am having a board meeting, during which, the forumite who contracted me to move these crappers, will interrupt the meeting, buy me a pint and then depart with his spoils.

For a moment, I thought we were still on plan 4, which involved another forumite to move the bogs at the same time as a promised radar. It's complicated, but that is how it goes.

So, it would be better if the bogs were transported inside the vehilces, so that I don't have to untie two rain soaked, mud spattered toilet trumpets and put them in my car.

I trust the instruments are properly clean. If you get my drift.

Oh if only things were that simple /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Just to bring this completely up to date /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
A few months ago , a certain I.G. of these forums made an open offer of two sea toilets which he was removing from his boat , and obviously my two boats were in need of such items so I snapped his hand off /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
However , he is on the South coast and I'm sort of oop Norf , so he and his good lady have been sitting on the toilets ever since /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The first attempt at pickup failed a few weeks ago /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif so when the Major told me about your venture I tried to piggy back the dumpsters and meet up with the Major on Sunday . Unfortunately , Peter is unlikely to have the time on this trip but has very kindly taken responsibility for collection on one of his next trips . That will then get the crappers up as far as Peter's place which is a lot closer to me than Sarfampton /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Many thanks to I.G. for the initial donation , and Peter for the forthcoming collection ( I think Mr & Mrs I.G. will be glad they don't have to sit on the toilets for too much longer /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif .
After he has collected them I will either have a trip to Stratford on Avon to look forward to , or another relay like this one /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Correct me if I am wrong , but isn't this the sort of thing the way we all prefer things to be ? . No unpleasantness ? . All helping each other out ? . Well I think it is anyway /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Another such incident involves such prominent persons as Hlb , Little Ship , Old Salt , and another non member , all helping to transport a radar scanner from Preston to Lincs , at no charge /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
These are the good things that happen on here , long may they continue /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: And they\'re off!

I look forward to see the end result! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: And they\'re off!

Er , David , could we have some names please ?
I'm building an album and the only one there I can definately label is Julie /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif don't know why /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: And they\'re off!

I have just spoken to Peter and he is stuck in a massive traffic jam on the A34 Oxford ring road.

Police cars are pushing their way through the jams, so he assumes there is some incident.

He says the trailer tows like a dream and that I should have no trouble taking off the new bolts on the axles tomorrow.

How did you photoshop the sunshine in?

[/ QUOTE ] No photoshop needed; it's been a glorious day down here in the balmy south. Naturally, I've been stuck in the office the whole time /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Looks reasonable tomorrow, as well.
