I have just spoken to Peter and he is stuck in a massive traffic jam on the A34 Oxford ring road.

Police cars are pushing their way through the jams, so he assumes there is some incident.

He says the trailer tows like a dream and that I should have no trouble taking off the new bolts on the axles tomorrow.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm beginning to regret asking Nick to ease off all the seized bolts on the trailer! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hope the traffic gets better for Peter.
If you are talking to him again, tell him the pics are great.

Cheers

Re: And they\'re off!

I'd have been there to wave them off, but at 2pm I got a call from the wife to say her car battery had died ( sod it, I had planned to spend the night on the boat so's to get an early start on Saturday) so I had to drive all the way back to Worthing to get a reasonably priced replacement and then back home to Ashington to fit it, at which point I am too tired to brave the rush hour traffic back to Hamble, boo hoo! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I will give you some help.......

Solitaire ( David ) is the fine figure of a man standing on the right of the photo, wearing the same gastly orange jacket that Jules has on.

At least that's what he told me to say......well, the first bit anyway!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: And they\'re off!

OK That's it so far. Sorry I haven't posted earlier, but co- driver(No 1 son, Andrew) and I had to sort out priorities. Now we've got back from the pub - the story so far.

Andrew & I picked up the trailer from David(Solitaire) and Julie (Powerskipper) and headed back up north. The toilets didn't make the rendezvous so that will be for another day.

Blimey, Al, what do you intend putting on this thing? The QM2? It's huge.

Good run up as far as Oxford, then hit the queue. Held us up an hour or so. When we got to the front of the queue there was a little van in the outside lane and a plod car behind it with the blue lights flashing. Why, oh why, couldn't he push he van to the inside shoulder? Didn't he realize there was a 10 mile queue forming? What a tosser. Made me wish we had got the toilets with us. It would mean that:- a. I would not have to hand over to co-driver Andrew whilst I sat in the back with my legs crossed and b. If I had put a screen round the trailer, charged 50p a pee for everyone else in the queue then we would not only have transported Al's trailer, but paid for it as well.
/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Anyway, once passed that lot we got back to Stratford on Avon with no further troubles. The thing tows like all four wheel trailers. Like a dream. You have to keep reminding yourself that it's there. It's a beaut, Al.

Now making up the bed on the bunks for security. No en-suite toilet though. Will have to use the front lawn again.

All set for the trip tomorrow up the M42 and M6 to Keele (Saturday). The meeting with MajorC is all arranged. I hope he doesn't miss me. I'm the one with 100 metres of Trailer behind me, Chris. You can have the axles and I'll have the rest. OK?

Camera all ready, will post further pics when the handover is complete.

Re: And they\'re off!

Thanks Peter , when you do manage to get them I hope you don't end up in another jam , or at least I hope you have some bleach with you /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: And they\'re off!

Peter, I intend to stand on the bridge at Junction 15 and photograph you as you go under, then catch you up, so don't go too quickly. Call me me tomorrow morning to give accurate ETA at Keele, then call me a mile short of Junc 15, so I can record this for posterity.

Re: And they\'re off!

Glad to hear you and Andrew got home safe and well.
The trailer does look huge behind your car, All i was told by solitaire was that he'd found a trailer that would be perfect for our Sealine 24fter. Sounds like it will fit perfectly. But I still can't get over the size of it in those pics! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Its reasuring to hear you think it looks good and that it runs well, buying something like that without seeing it was abit daunting. Although I do trust Davids judgement 100% /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

I hope you trip up to Keele is a bit better with the traffic than todays trip.

Hope your sleep isn't too uncomfortable tonight! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Thanks again for your part in this challenge, I owe you far more than '1 drink'!!

I'll look forward to more news and pics tomorrow.

Cheers

Al.

BTW, can you please put some locking nuts on it before you hand it over to the major? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'll have you know that those jackets were particularly chosen by the board" of Mendez Marine to have impact and "wow" factor! In the event of fog or other such poor visibility we are able to stand out from the crowd - /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I did think about it! However I decided that in the first instance it may be frowned upon by certain sectors of the forum and the real reason was that in case the wheels fell off I could say "It weren't nuffink to do wiff me guv!" /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

As to the size of the trailer, you weight (get it?) until the boats on it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif You'll also wonder how you ever helmed a boat of that size when it's out of the water. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: And they\'re off!

Day 2 in the relay and Dad (aka Peterandjeanette) has the wheels rolling once more. Leaving home just after 9 i've left him to his own devices today, beware! All looking good for another few miles north.

Day 2 dawns.

Having picked up the trailer yestarday from Powershipper and Solitaire ( the ones in the orange jackets) No ! son, Andrew and I set off for Stratford.

IMG_0021500x375.jpg

Ah, bless. Dad does take this secutirty business to heart. (Andrew)

IMG_0026500x375.jpg

SWMBO and I do a quick preflight check on the forum flag

IMG_0031500x375.jpg

So, ever onwards and upwards. Up M40, up M42, up M6 to Keele services to hand over to Majorcatastrophe.

IMG_0033500x375.jpg

We decide who has what off thr trailer and he sets off with me chasing to the next junction where I can turn round and head home.

IMG_0040500x375.jpg

So, that's me complete. Good luck to all the rest of the team.

Al, if you PM me your address I'll burn all the photos I took onto a CD and send them on to you.
