Great deal on AA Lithium Batteries

There are clearly double-standards at work here.

For example, our esteemed weather forecaster simonjk openly promotes his paid-for services and nobody bats an eyelid, and nor should they. I post a link to another site that ultimately saves other members several pounds (earning me a few pence at no expense to the buyer) but get all the above nonsense.

I should clarify that the link placed on this forum does not generate any income, it is merely a link to an informative post on another forum. Purchasing from the link in that post generates a small income towards the cost of running the forum itself.

It is enjoyable to watch you grubbing about...

Ultimately, PBO only works for the majority if all forumites declare any commercial interest in their posts.
But I did! It wasn't possible to get to the Amazon link without going via the original post in the Bavaria forum, and that clearly states that using the Amazon link aids the forum. I've even highlighted it in bold red text.

What a mean spirited forum this has become.
The OP provides a link to what seem to be bargain batteries - presumably to try to help other forumites. If you are concerned that he makes money from this don't follow the link but go directly to Amazon and find them yourself.
Who cares if the OP makes money from this - if you are paying the same why shouldn't he make a few pence?
Some very disappointing responses which are surely not in the original spirit of PBO or helping other boat owners.

Thank you.

Stop getting at Nigel. If he gets a few pence towards his Bavaria forum, good luck to him.

+1
I have found his links useful in the past. If he makes something out of it it doesn't cost me anything.

You seem to have a nice boat. Why do you need to grub about for pennies from your peers?

With that sort of comment, I don't consider you a peer.

Having taken legal advice,
FFS - really?

It's that serious that you've taken legal advice?

perhaps we should all take legal advice before we post anything - or we could carry on in the spirit of the forum and the rules ...

If it is "earning" you such a piffling amount I really can't see why you'd bother doing it... so I can only assume that it does net you quite a few pounds - may be not all from this site, but from others - and we all know how SEO works with links etc etc ...

I accept that you put the disclaimer about income on your own site ... but I can't see why you've got such an adversion to putting one here?

IMO, the spirit of PBO is that of freely helping others - not for reward - whilst there's little objection to people making pocket money or perhaps more - the affiliate links that have been used on here in the past is a subversive method for making money - unless accompanied by a note that says it makes money for the affiliate.

Like you say - who cares if the OP makes money from this - of course, most of us don't - but on the flipside - why would the OP be so reluctant to declare his interest? What is he trying to hide?

From my son, he has three Law degrees. When this all kicked off last time the admins said the reason they banned affiliate links was because a member threatened the site with legal action. I wanted to make sure I was watertight.

And to reiterate, I'm not trying to hide anything, just moving the disclaimer to an area where I have control.

Fair enough - but which everway - if affiliate links are banned, they are banned ...

So, affiliate links are banned (if they are? I don't know) , so you think it appropriate to post a link directly to a page on your own website which is just for the purpose of providing an affiliate link ... ?!?

Really ...

I would wonder ... but I really can't be arsed ...

just as a footnote - if you're going to post links to bargins or whatever - no issue with that - but on here - whilst there's an affiliate link ban - just do a plain link ... there's a good chap ... that's the spirit of the "rules" whether you agree with them or not ...

The way this thread has developed really takes the biscuit. Nigel let's people know of a really good offer and in the process his Bavaria website benefits by a few pence. Next thing some mean spirited pedants start chastising him for being so helpful and even "taking legal advice"! I can't believe it, haven't they got anything better to do? Next thing they'll be taking VicS to task for publicising Aldi special buys.
Word of advice, Nigel, don't try to justify yourself to them. Petty mindedness is only encouraged by a response. The rest of us (silent majority) thank you for the offer. It may involve a little rule bending but are we men (women) or mice.

I have just received my batteries. 1 pack of 4 cells! What's going on?

When I ordered there were 2 of the deals remaining. Then the deal ended and it was £26 for 4 packs.
Yesterday I recieved 1 pack of 4 batteries - complained and £9 odd was refunded in less than 12 hours.

So I recieved £5 of great batteries for FREE and Nigel gained a few pence for his site and the Amazon seller has probably learned a lesson, but good on them for the refund and for sending 4 PACKS to those that beat the rush.

None of them have leaked. They're alkaline rather than lithium, though I'm not sure I'd notice the difference.

Pete

It would be difficult NOT to notice the difference - lithium cells have a 20 year shelf life, have between 6-10 times the endurance of Alkaline batteries and usually cost x10 as much.
Time for new specs I think, Pete.

That is a good price, Nigel, I've been buying them for about £0.50 for AAA and £0..75 for AA - of course those are the 1.5v lithium cells, the 3.6v ones are slightly more pricey
