Great deal on AA Lithium Batteries

This is a thread which should have closed after 5 posts !

Setting cat amongst pidgies....lidl tronic 2300mah AA or AAA rechargeable for £2.99

- yes - FOR 4 of them !!!!

Somebody advertising underfloor heating is complaining that someone else is abusing YBW's hospitality?

He quite clearly and openly states so on his website that he links to.

Why would anyone not include a similar few words on this Forum?

I wouldn't even consider using a rechargeable battery for a torch, unless Li-ion. Absolutely not in a bit of emergency gear.
I wouldn't consider NOT using a rechargeable battery for a torch - unless it was for emergency gear ...

but then I do use a torch far more than many ...

There are clearly double-standards at work here.

For example, our esteemed weather forecaster simonjk openly promotes his paid-for services and nobody bats an eyelid, and nor should they. I post a link to another site that ultimately saves other members several pounds (earning me a few pence at no expense to the buyer) but get all the above nonsense.

I should clarify that the link placed on this forum does not generate any income, it is merely a link to an informative post on another forum. Purchasing from the link in that post generates a small income towards the cost of running the forum itself.

But at least the link Simon always includes in his signature is clearly a link to a commercial operation. It might not be technically within the rules but it is entirely transparent and it is providing a service which might be of interest to Forumites.

Exactly the same logic can be applied to your links, which is why I simply do not understand why you refuse to include a few words in your signature or in the text of your post noting your commercial interest.

Why the contorted attempt to avoid indicating your commercial interest in this forum? A link to a link does not break the actuality of commercial interest.

My post is also "providing a service ... to forumites".

If you follow the link I posted you will clearly see that I have included the text that you desire. The link on this forum has no "commercial interest" to anyone.

[Edit after my reply]

I am not trying to avoid indicating a commercial interest, but you can see why I would want to avoid all this! Having taken legal advice, I am complying 100% with the restriction of not posting links that earn income on this forum.

What a mean spirited forum this has become.
The OP provides a link to what seem to be bargain batteries - presumably to try to help other forumites. If you are concerned that he makes money from this don't follow the link but go directly to Amazon and find them yourself.
Who cares if the OP makes money from this - if you are paying the same why shouldn't he make a few pence?
Some very disappointing responses which are surely not in the original spirit of PBO or helping other boat owners.

I totally disagree I'm afraid Pete.

The original, and ongoing, spirit of PBO must surely be one of total openess. It's not about Nigel making a few pence ...... it's about transparency.

What if I were the owner of Lidl or had a commercial interest in that Company and I start a thread like http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?452551-Lidl-Specials-Power-Impact-Wrench-Others and even went on to say that I have bought that wrench and it is a fantastic piece of kit, which is what I would say if I owned the company.

Forumites would be outraged ..... and quite rightly!

Ultimately, PBO only works for the majority if all forumites declare any commercial interest in their posts.
