Using Furuno and C Map NT recently experiened errors of some magnitude in the Solent, even though using WGS-84 datum etc etc...

Called C map and explained problem. They organised a software update for the Furuno kit and bingo! (gotta say the service was excellent; and gratis)

C map XL cartridge was OK, but the software on Furuno Kit was out dated! (18months old) have had 12 upgrades since then... not a word from furuno BTW.

For those of you using Furuno, you should now be running version 19 software which has a number of upgrades especially for flybridge - lower helm communication.

This new software upgrade will also allow you to use the newly developed PC planner..... albeit with a few glitches still to iron out.

Hope this helps.

glad you got it sorted.

I just ran a couple of upgrades through my sonar/chartplotter (downloaded to Memorycards) and the improvement in picture quality etc is amazing - like a new unit - as well as some increased functionality like tidal diamonds that work!

so your heading is actually incorrect. There was nothing wrong with GPS accuracy, merely with the programme of the plotter reading it!

Good to know, having recently purchased a new boat and the first time I tried it in the solent was a couple of weeks ago. I have a Furuno 1850 Plotter and tried it out recently on the solent and it did seem quite a bit off, especially when I went to the fuel berth it showed me to be on dry land (and this time I wasnt !) around 30metres away.
I thought it might need re-calibrating but couldnt work out how to do that, so this might be the problem then
