Just lifted my cockpit floor as it was leaking a fair bit, it was screwed down with self tappers and sealed with some sticky non setting goop. Need to know if its wise to use sikaflex when l put it back, hopefully l wont have to take it up again for many moons. If not any suggestions for sealing it, other goops etc.
Cheers Phil

if you use sikaflex you won't get it up again unless you can get a hacksaw blade into the joint. there aren't many non-setting goops around but automotive window sealant stays liquid in the tube for years whereas sikaflex sets in months after opening.

depends

on the type of Sikaflex used. We replaced our windows in the saloon with new lexan. We used the sikaflex stuff that is made for this purpose. I haven't got the number here, but if you ask your supplier he should have the instructions leaflet. The window seal sikaflex forms a gasket but does not stick very much. So,you need to use self-tappers again, drill new holes in different places if need be. Good luck.

Oh yes, before I forget: buy a good sealant remover and DONT try and remove wet sikaflex because it will be very messy. Wait untill it's completely cured, you can cut off and remove most of the excess Sika, the rest comes off easily with a dedicated remover.

5200 makes a permanent sealant and a non-permanent. I don't know who makes the 5200, but it's a pretty popular sealant in the US.
