I've re-posted this on new thread, rather than hi-jack the thread on NZ Charts and pilot books

When I download OpenCPN from the website:

http://opencpn.org/ocpn/download

from the right hand column, not the left, Google Chrome won't open it, and renames it

"Unconfirmed478045.crdownload".

What's the best way around this?

I could just rename the file to "opencpn_4.0.0_setup.exe" and run it, is this safe? or is there an alternative way?

Chrome for me looked like it was downloading then blocked at the last minute. Try another Browser. Downloaded fine in MS Edge (IE Successor) on Windows 10 test laptop. Google are getting more antsy with Chrome. I am seriously considering dumping it

I can't see a problem.

I click on Download OpenCPN 4.0.0 for Windows® XP SP3/Vista/7/8

- and a dialogue opens with the option to save opencpn_4.0.0_setup.exe

Have you accidentally installed a browser hijack or something?

Are you sure it's finished downloading?

On my machine from chrome it renames the file - "opencpn_4.0.0_setup.exe.crdownload" until it has finished downloading when it gets renamed back to a .exe. While this is happening if you keep clicking the up/down arrows next to the address bar you'll see the file size increasing as it gets downloaded.

If you are still stuck let me know & I'll save it to dropbox or drive and send you a link.

The file had completed the download, I checked the file size and it was OK.

When I looked in the download folder, using Chrome, it had marked OpenCPN as a "malicious" file, but gave me the option to recover it. I hit the recover button and it renamed the file to a .exe, as it should be.

Norton antivirus reported the files as safe, so I unpacked it and installed it and it's now running OK.

I also downloaded the NZ charts. It's really nice to have a full set of current charts free of charge. I've already had a good look around the Bay of Islands and the adjacent coast.

I wish the UK government had the same enlightened attitude as NZ and the USA.

I wonder how many RNLI "shouts" would be eliminated, if the UK had access to free up to date charts?

Chrome did the same thing to me, had to use Explorer to dowload and ex.
