At 12:00 on Easter Saturday we departed Ocean Village and headed for Torquay. Flat seas, 2 pods of dolphins, and 4 hours cruising later we arrived, and moored up next to our new boat. We spent half of Sunday transferring everything over, and the rest of the day enjoying the sunshine, and hospitality of Torquay's finest refreshment outlets. Monday was not quite so pleasant as we had to somehow get back to Southampton to retrieve our car, as we are leaving the new boat in Torquay.
We have had 5 years in the Solent, and on the whole have enjoyed it, but we were always happier when we headed West for the weekend, or holidays. We will not miss dodging the yachts who seem to deliberately change course when they see you coming, or the drag up and down Southampton Water everytime you go out, but will miss IOW, especially Shanklin where we used to drop the hook regularly, and have the place to ourself (If you have not stopped at Shanklin yet you should give it a try).
Although it will take us at least 4 hours to drive to Torquay from home, we are looking forward to opening up the D9's in open waters, and seeing more of the Devon and Cornwall coast, and start going to France and CI's (still a virgin there).
So it is goodbye Solent, hello Devon, and lets hope this summer is going to be as good as forecast, and we all enjoy our boats to the full.
