Any suggestions for good places to eat in and around Burnham on Crouch? the only places we have been too so far are the Swallowtail (which isn't too bad) and a take-a-way curry from down the high street (which was very good).

As you've found out the Swallowtail is Ok, very good value and quality for bar food baguettes etc. For lunches the tearoom place on the Quay just beyond the Royal Burnham and the Cabin by the War Memorial are good value.
Evenings the Thai is very good. The Chinese by the clocktower is one of the better ones. The Indian used to be an award winner but I believe has changed hands so cannot comment on that one. Pubs The White Harte, Star on the Quay and The Victoria down by the Corinthian are all good.
If you want to go upmarket The Contented Sole has a good reputation (although I've never eaten there) There are a couple of other pubs that do food and Seargent Peppers resturant {which again I've never tried) and of course the Yacht clubs although I'm not sure if they cater for non members, I guess they would as they are all short of cash!
At Ostend perversely named hamlet on the West side of town
there is another curry place that used to be The George pub
I bet there are a few more I've forgotton, so there is no shortage of eateries in the town.

The Indian is the Polash, which has a branch in Shoeburyness as well. It is credited with inventing the Chicken Tikka Massala for english palates. Still owned by the Brother of the Shoeburyness one. Jolly good food.

As you may have noticed there are quite a few eateries , can you narrow it down and say what sort of thing you're after ? , there's eat in V eat out , posh V cheap , English , Chinese , Etc
Last meal we had was at the first pub we found after getting off the train , not bad food for a bar snack , but it all depends on what you're after

Everything!

I have just got a new SatNav thingy and I wanted to put in a range of decent places to eat as POIs. So when we are down next and SWMBO says she wants to go out for food, we can choose somewhere different from the places we normally go.

Any good Italian food around?

Ferry boat at North Fambridge has improved over the last six months nothing too exotic but good sized portions of tasty food, check out the specials as there can be some hidden delights (grilled sea bream) a few weeks ago was excellent

You can visit by boat, tie up the the visitor pontoon in the river then 5 min walk.

No one's mentioned the Contented Sole... It's changed hands recently. It's very good (and pricey)

Hmmm.
Sergeant Pepper ... recently refurbished, but still incapable of peroducing a decent meal. Was in there tonight. Horrible rack of ribs and slab chicken, good salad bar. Hmm . Only needed nail holes to be attached to my shoe

Polash Indian resting on its laurels - havent had a decent meal ther in 3 years. However the Curry Cottage Indian takeaway is the best this side of Aldebaran 3.

Kebab shop not good enough and pricey. Can sit down, but why?

Thai is splendid and quite formal
Contented Sole remains pinnacle of cuisine.

Chinese near Clocktower is Ok, but..... someone should visit the one at the top of the hill near the better fish & chip shop. Let us know.

White Harte is good for old fashioned English, but pricey in the restaurant. I think the bar meals are better value. Sort of kid friendly in the side room behind the bar.

Star is straight out of Brake Brothers. Hmm.

Anchor is snacks only.

Victoria Arms is good grub and plenty of it well priced, fine pint too. Kid friendly

Oyster Smack recently refurbished, used to be a brilliant Sunday breakfast, needs reviewing.

Station Hotel. Hum Drum.

Royal Corinthian, good value on Friday nights and Sunday lunch. No recent reports on other YCs, except that Burnham SC is like going to your Mums. V Kid Friendly

Go to the Royal Tiger on the old A130 between Hanningfield and Howe Green. Knockout Indian and Thai. V Classy, V Good and Cheap too.

Cabin Dairy full of bikers and a 1 hour wait for a worthwhile breakfast. Avoid on Sundays.

Had an excellent sunday roast in the Royal Oak just outside Maldon good price and friendly service they stop serving at 3pm six of us arrived at 2.50 and they couldnt have been more accomodating.
For breakfast the round bush serves up a huge coronery inducing breaky if you can manage it,
there are smaller options available also but just have to ask myself why? I like the one size fits all concept

Both on the fambridge road towards maldon think its the B1010
