Where's a good place to overwinter in the Eastern Med? We're looking for somewhere with a bit of community about it. We're currently in Greece and thought about Turkey and Tunsia as well as the Adriatic countries.

Check out recent YouTube offerings from Sailing Fair Isle, which has been in Turkey, and Sailing Gently, which has a series on Med Marinas, including Turkey and North African options.

Just bear in mind that eastern Greece and Turkey can be cold and wet in the winter. I have no experience of northern Africa but can imagine it will be a better climate, I'm sure someone will soon come along with their experiences.

Good point and one of the reasons we were looking for somewhere with community.

Very true. If you are planning to stay aboard in these countries through winter, you'll need a good means of heating the boat - possibly that will limit you to marinas and yards providing power. But even with heat, condensation when living aboard can be a real bugbear unless you are well insulated.

Some places in Greece that provide a good (English-speaking) community include marinas at Corfu and Levkas (both dear), moorings at Nidri, the yards at Preveza (technically you can't live aboard on shore here but some do), and a much cheaper option, the yards at Halkutsi on the east coast. Bear in mind though that while late autumn and spring may be lively in these places, many people go home in winter.

Some years ago a forumite from here organised a rally through the the Suez Canal to Hurgada and beyond. Some like "Follow the Boat" carried on to India and Borneo. The only mandatory rule was a reliable Diesel Engine. Good times were had by all apparantly and gave entertainibg write ups. I don't recall the details but it seems like a good way to spend the winter away from 90/180 and see the the pyranids etc.

Edit. Just recalled there were two rallies aroind at that time.
