Aye, fair winds and happy sailing times ahead - I am dead jealous of you lot!
And we canna even welcome the ARC'ers on this side, as St Lucia stole the race from us 20+ years ago......
Oh well, might just have to toddle over to say Hi in a few weeks time perhaps.
I sailed in the first one in '86, and that was ace - I was just reading on the ARC homepage about one remarkable Norwegian lad who was also in that race, with MS, and he is back in Las Palmas again now visiting friends who are about to cross - here is a link: http://www.worldcruising.com/arc/ne...3&ArchiveID=1&CategoryID=71&ItemID=18839&src=
Ernst has a very pretty daughter who fell for a very scruffy Bajan (no, not me) on an even scruffier Wharram cat called Rakatak - they might even have been the first ARC'ers to get married some time after they arrived in the New World......
And another Scandahooligan tale - back then we were alongside a Norwegian family with two wee children on board a Sweden Yachts 34 in Puerto Rico before going around to Las Palmas for the start - and they are back again (but probably not with the kids this time) with another Sweden Yacht called Viking Crusader, this time 40'.
Matt, if you bump into them, could you say Hi from me please?
And Michael_W of this Forum is also taking part with his Oyster Heritage 37 Sestina - he has even threatened to slog a 100 miles to windward over to Barbados after all the parties finish to come and say Hi to us, as they like Barbados, having been here before in their Contessa 33.
Liver recovery time after gallons of ARC pummy runch?
They will have Mount Gay to contend with here though......
