Good isolator switch for engine start battery?

had no luck... one that came with boat stopped working - did not isolate battery/innards broke

bought a shiny new one from ebay, worked for several uses only, now will isolate battery, but will not take cranking current (luckily i can short the terminals with a knife). seems to keep the connection for charging the battery tho.

so what is a good one please?

engine yanmar 3gm30f, battery 120AH (i think)

that is similar to the one i bought (but not quite the same)

i took it apart - seems like big chunky bits that shouldn't fail - so am puzzled it won't take the starting amps

how about switches that you don't fix a lot of? :-)

handily Gaelforce do a BEP one for £26 - 250A (i assume that's continous current?) lack of specs on website though - think that's enough for me? confusingly listed as 275A in header.

the other one listed is heavy duty and does state 600A continous, 2500A cranking

The one in the first link is rated at 275 amps continuous (for 1 hour) and a cranking current of 1250 amps ( for 10secs) That spec will exceed your requirements by a mile. Your cranking current is probably less than 275 amps

The link i gave in post #2 is for the 701 switch, which is the 275a switch from Gael Force. This is the correct switch for your engine, this switch will almost certainly exceed the rating of your battery cables, never mind the starting current :encouragement:
