The Fulmar has a large cockpit so should be able to get quite a few onboard at once. I cannot accept prebookings, so join the queue.

Concerto is still not quite ready for the show. Should finish repainting the decks tomorrow. A bit later than planned as I have used nearly 100m of masking tape on deck and that takes a lot of time protecting all those deck fittings etc. Still a few small other jobs to be completed by Wednesday afternoon as she goes into the show marina on Thursday morning. Then a final tidy up and a thorough clean ready for visitors on Friday. Currently I am in Mecury Marina on the Hamble and today was so hot and airless there making work in the middle of the day difficult. Finally packed up at 8.15 as it was getting too dark to work outside.

You might find it worthwhile - at least checking the prices while the show is on. Last time we got a 20% “boat show ” discount on a load of electronic stuff and sternthruster from MEC
 
I’m heavily involved in a show of similar size for another industry and as the no1 manufacturer in this industry can see the merit of these shows.

1. It’s a great brand piece, to show all your products in one place not only says things to the industry but also to the consumer. Ok they might not be in the market for the product now but when they are you will be forefront of mind. when people see the depth and breadth of your products they gain confidence in you.

2. Market research, where else can you actually talk to your consumer and get first hand feedback, not what some yob has written on your social media.

3. Networking, the stuff you find out and contacts made are golden.

4. talk to the experts, ok with live chat this is less important but you can’t beat face to face conversations with the product in front of you.

5. offers, again this is getting less and less but you can offer deals inside of an event that would not be allowed market wide.

Personally I love these shows and for my company sets the tone for the upcoming year.
 
I am not taking any part in providing any form of ID for accessing anything in the UK. If sufficient numbers do this the financial harm will stop this utter nonsense. After all if 90%+ have been double jabbed just who are we protecting, a small cohort who have chosen not to be vaccinated - good wishes to them, but not at the cost of my personal freedom. The thin end of a very nasty wedge.

That’s not an accurate picture. Some double jabbed people do die.

I do agree with ending all covid measures now. The risk is so low of death and harm that the damage from continuing precautions is now greater than not doing it, so we should stop.

Well, all of them, eventually. We can't start acting as though people could live forever if only they were well enough protected. Those that just want to stay alive should create their own sanctuary while the rest of us actually live.

Couldn't agree more. Not only that though, we're all going to pubs, restaurants, shopping etc every week and for the boat show, many people will be staying in hotels, so not only is it the thin end of the wedge, it's totally pointless. I had planned to go, but have cancelled the hotel and will be finding something better to do.

Just talking from my personal experience.

A lot of the people working the stand at our show are under 25, many still teenagers, so haven't been doubled vaccinated yet. They could be talking to 10,000 people over four days. As a duty of care to my staff I would want something to prove you're not carrying.
My biggest worry it that we all get pinged and have to isolate for 10 days. What this could do to our business isn't worth thinking about...

Life must go on and we have to take a risk if we want to do these things. But, anything that can mitigate the risk is a plus in my book.

Well you're not getting that unfortunately, you're going to have to trust the word of 10,000 people that they've not got it, and you'll have to trust that attendees would rather lose the ticket price than lie on their form to gain entry. Either way, the QR code doesn't actually change anything.

All methods don’t work on an individual basis, but on 10,000 individuals they do

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. Are you implying that a placebo QR code somehow will work at scale better?

Yes, all forms of control, rules, laws etc. There maybe individual dissenters but the majority go with the flow the majority of the time. In public health this is huge, it prevents mass events that would overwhelm the system
 
Another thread that has turned into a whine about a perceived attack on personal freedoms.

Enough already - please. I came here to try and glean some useful info and to help me decide if I should go or not, and it's just depressing reading you lot go at each other.

Live & let live. Each make your own choices and decisions, you don't have to enforce them on others

Totally agree on this point. Luckily the majority of people in the UK are law abiding and understand the reasoning for asking for evidence.
There will be bad apples but its a calculated risk, the show must go on....

I'm going to the boat show and feel its my duty to do a test if asked, its no bother really. And I didn't need to show a negative test to fly out the country recently... LOL

Obviously it’s a fluid situation, what doesn’t work will get tossed if the powers to be are super efficient, but it’s government, so that doesn’t always happen. Also, this is done by mathematical modeling, without knowing the model it’s not easy to criticize. But little is done with the express purpose of curtailing personal freedoms. In fact it’s to give people the freedom to remain in good health with a reduced chance of infection. Of course, in reality we are all governed by the laws of unintended consequences
