Hi,

Can anyone advise me on the steps to get a Depka form?

I am picking up my new (old) boat, from Gouvia, on Monday. It is an an ex charter boat and although I am getting the deregistration and tax sorted, I guess I will have to register for a Depka in some way.

I read a passing reference about requiring a Greek Tax Number before I could get a new Depka form. ????

If anyone can tell me what I need to do and, helpfully, where I would need to go in Corfu / Gouvia, that would be smashing.

(I am also going to apply for a fishing permit but one battle at a time!)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

No tax number required. Stay well away from any idea of getting a tax number, as that will entail tax returns...

You should be able to pick up a DEKPA (if they have any) from the PP office in Gouvia (near the office) or in the main port in Town. Saying that, we arrived in October and I have yet to visit the PP!

As for fishing permits, I read they're being abolished? Though the PP will probably know best whether you still need to get one.

What boat have you got yourself? I've been very lax about meeting people this winter, but if you'd like to meet up for a drink, we could try and get ourselves legitimised together! :p

Just take all the boat papers, your passport, ICC and crew list to the Port Police and ask them for a DEKPA. No tax number required.

Hi Cardo,

Thanks for the advice on the Depka. It sounds a lot more straightforward than the visits to the tax offices that I had envisaged.

I've bought an old charter GibSea 302. (I am not sure how this happened after six months of travelling around looking at Westerlys and Sadlers!)

This was to be my damp hermit's cave while I singlehanded around Greece for the rest of the year. As it happens, the spare cabin has been booked up for most of the year so, happily, it looks like I will be having a more sociable time than I thought.

I'm flying out with a pal to set up the boat next week so I am sure that I will be on the forum looking for help and advice
It would be great to meet up for a beer.

Had several goes trying to get my DEKPA in Gouvia and Corfu main port. Always out of stock! No problem in Sivota/Mourtos on mainland. Good excuse to go over there as first trip.

BTW you will need a Bill of Sale for deregistration and that needs to be notarised by the Port Police. Make sure also you have your SSR organised.

I suspect that the Gibsea 302 is less than 10m LOA and it may not require a DEKPA at all. Perhaps someone else can confirm this.

LOA for 302 is given as 9.02m, so no requirement for a DEPKA. Just make sure the SSR reflects the correct length and you need worry no more.

SO many people spout about things they have no knowledge of on here Duncan that I despair, often! silly plonkers!

I will be collecting the bill of sale when I arrive. I understand that the deregistration will take a bit of time but I can believe that I can sail the boat until I get this. (And, yes, I have registered her on the SSR).

Yes, the boat is 9.06 metres! Hurrah! Thanks for the very welcome information!

Getting a Depka there will kill two birds with one stone. The other reason to go there is that End Bay is high on my list of places to take the new GF to make her appreciate why I prefer a sailing life to her commuting 9-5!

I am cheered about not needing a Depka for Eris.

Do you know what 'Eris' means in Greek?

'Eris (Greek Ἒρις, "Strife") is the goddess of strife and discord in Greek mythology. She is the daughter of Nyx, but has no father. She is the opposite of Harmonia ...'
You still have time to change her name, unless you known what you're doing, of course.

Glyka, yes, I was alarmed when I discovered the meaning of Eris and I sought the wisdom of the forum in a thread on the subject.
I am very wary about changing a boat name - Although I claim not to be superstitious!

The conclusion of the forum discussion was that ...
(a) If there is a God called Eris, she wouldn't be happy about changing the name so best not to change the name!
(b) If there is no such deity, then, of course, there is no danger of disharmony and, since it is a pretty name, why not keep it!

Superstitious, me? never!

At someone's suggestion, I did come very close to changing the name to Eriskay (which is an island on the beautiful W coast of Scotland) but I like short boat names, though, and I like the sound of 'Eris'.

Just had a look at my paperwork. Took just under 3 weeks from the day the payment went through to getting the certificate.

The PP will want to see boat registration certificate. It's pretty much the universal thing that every country, aside from the UK, want to see.

So, does that mean that I won't be able to leave the marina without the certificate? The boat has been with the charter company in the marina for some years so I hope that they will accept the bill of sale as a valid document.

I would hate to be left sitting on the pontoon for three weeks until the certificate arrives.
