before you lay out for a Go Pro

Needs a bit of grading and the audio replaced... I don't like the widey widey bit either, But You can chop that down in the settings...
I have just got a new hero 3 which I am gonna attatch to various bits this summer.... ( but not with the suction thing which someone not me in the company used on a car shot last week... Which resulted in us getting a new hero 3 to replace the hero2....)
have you got any shots from the new one
I would love to see how it behaves in the hands of some-one who knows what they are doing
and also if you can get any usable sound from it
D
I would like to see some shots from it from someone who knows what they are doing as well....
I can't imagine you can get proper audio from it... But you can't on a DSLR either....
I have to say that we barely used our hero 2 before it was desparoed... And I was unimpressed... It really needed good light ... And I was not happy with using streamclip to put it into a editable codec....
I think it has it's place... So far for us we haven't found it.... The DSLR's produce such good images right out of the can that everything else is a dissapointment... I am not really happy even with the XF300 which shoots 4.2.2 at 50mbps....
I shot this 3 years ago on the 5dmk2 with a 21mm Leitz... It's automatic on the camera and untouched except to be chopped down for the web...
None of that barrel distortion and the colour is spot on.... And even the audio is not that bad! (shot in the same place as the other vid...)
The DSLR's really do make it look easy.... And I don't think you need to go wider than 21mm as shown....
Can't claim to know what I'm doing but a short clip of the PASAB Race here...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgKq1ftViYo&feature=youtu.be
Quality on the PC/TV is far better than You Tube. There are a number of setting/choice in image quality with the GoPro, just takes a bit of practice.
Peter.

still got that weird distortion there
and the sound that seems as though it arriving down a tube

Tv adds 3 stone...Nah, can't be right, too much distortion. Makes the helmsman look too round.
I use a Lumix mike that goes into the hot shoe on my panasonic camera - it is designed for a DSLR but does an excellent job
It may be distortion to you but we are trying to see whats happening on a 12m x 6.5m playground without jumping off the boat. The sound is strange as the camera is enclosed in a waterproof case, the sounds are being transmitted through the structure of the boat. We can use an optional rear cover that picks up sound through the air, out of the case the camera sound is quite good but needs shielding from wind noise. I often use clips from my GoPro interspersed with clips from the Xacti, it all looks fine to me, perhaps an advantage of being an untrained amateur

so you have both Peter
never used a Go pro
but the World looks weird through it

Thats the advantage though in some respect Dylan for me, the fish eye view gives a huge wide angle shot, I think you can reduce this in the settings. The sound has always been pretty rubbish, but I bought mine for its hardy features.
One a side note, I had a play with time lapse photography Monday night

I need to pick a more interesting scene next time, but this was done with the Go Pro, YouTube destroys the video quality unfortunately (or Adobe Premiere), might upload it to vimeo.com today and compare the quality.
few questions
why is is 4 x 3 - can you make it 16 x 9
can you re-set it to lose the fish eye and curvey fences
I though that the go pro records in HD
you can upload to youtube in HD
and I always crank up the contrast and brightness before uploading to youtube

This watchable, too:
