What glue should I use to stick two small aluminium plates? the forces involved will not be particularly great.

Also, what would you use to stick aluminium to glass? Again, the forces will be relatively weak

Araldite/epoxy will work but is not known for being flexible if the plates need to move much.
CT1 will work, as will Gorilla Glue. CT1 is fearsomely expensive unless you happen to have a tube lying around and like all constructon adhesives tends to go off in the nozzle so you end up binning most of the tube unused.

For smallish items I have used ordinary contact adhesive, which is cheap and quite adequate. The best results with epoxy are obtained by scarring the surfaces after you have coated them with the adhesive. This is messy but it prevents the formation of the oxide layer that is created as soon as fresh aluminium is exposed. Another possibility is cyanoacrylate (superglue) but I don't know how this will perform in the aluminium-glass situation.

At around £8 for a cartridge it doesn't strike me as expensive.

So.... Gorilla did the alu-alu job very well. Now silicone adhesive is having a go a the alu-glass caboodle. Let's see how that works

Neither are glass and alooominum

The local rep showed me how to prevent this, which is contra instinctive. Leave a 1cm blob sticking out of the end of the nozzle. Do not shove a screw in the end like with other adhesives.

Anyone tried that 3M double sided tape that they keep advertising for this sort of job?

3M VHB though there is also a softer version, must be good if the price is anything to go by?
