Gludy's Blog

Beautifully constructed videos and a lovely project. Perhaps just a shade long winded, a little more editing down to keep the momentum and intererest of casual viewers, but special interest parties will love it.

Thanks Paul, great stuff, nice to see.

I liked the mods you made - I saw them first on your "launch" video but realised how good they were having seen the Exuma test sail boat. In particular your bigger outside table makes much sense and your helm seats are loads better than the standard bench/slab urgh thing. Pity though that they dropped the sails and turned on the motors as soon as the wind got to 25kts. Also a bit naughty of them not to recess the ST60s on that style of dash, but I know you'll be fixing detials like that

What did you come up with for final design interior saloon seating? you said you would be making further tweaks. I wasn't convinced by Duncan's initial drawing with a slightly curved bench and a big high table. I'd want something more comfortable and sociable I think

Also, and i hope you dont mind honest feedback, I agree Ocean's comment that the pace of the videos should be stepped up. The "First trip to SA" video had far too much rough sea footage at the beginning, followed by a long scene of Lesley driving a manky silver rental car, and it was a full 4.35 before we got past the opening "atmo" shots to the actual boat. Just my $0.02 on the matter, and perhaps I'm impatient! :-)

Good luck with the final fit out and stuff, and watching your posts with interest here

Thanks for all that input.

The videos were produced some time ago and I think your comments are valid. They were produced for the specialist multihullers on my web site but the points you make are IMHO still valid and will be acted upon. I really appreciate comment and critcial comment is the most important.

We have made a great number of tweaks inside and outside the boat - the subject of a future video.

The saloon table was redesigned a few times and is smaller but still curved. It can not only change height but can also move in and out so that it slides over the seat bringing the table nearer to you when eating. In addition it can lower to form a huge bed area with the existing seating - maybe handy for me to sleep when others are on night watch.

The bad news is that my final payment which is for extras alone is almost the same price as the total sail away cost of the boat and whilst I bought my old rands at well over 15 to the pound I did not buy my rands for the final bill and they are today 11.7 to the pound - the difference is exchange rate alone is costing me almost £100k, so I really cocked it up there!

A huge amount of thought has gone into the boat with many contributing to those thoughts but no matter how well planned I am sure it will not be perfect - just nearly so, I hope :-)
