I just couldn't resist taking a couple of pictures whilst sitting on the balcony. They're only off the iPad so please don't judge too harshly.

It may not feature on many Pride of Britain publications but with 3 marinas and views like this there are worse places to be on a sunny day. 1/3 the price of Gunwharf Quays and a much better view. I mean who would want to look at Gosport :)

Unfortunately the sun made the photo of Cowes & Southampton a bit dark

If anyone fancies moving their boat over from Antibes there are a few berths available. PM me & I'll put you in touch. Free flights 24/7 in your car via the M3 and you can pack laptops and liquid :)

Henry :)

My boat is visible in second picture :) Will be on-board tomorrow to fix a few things and complete preps for the new season. Hopefully have time for a quick blast out to the island.

Those are fantastic harbour views.

Interesting to note just one Frigate moored at South Railway jetty. Time was when all those jetties from South Railway to North Corner (the visible line of the dockyard in photo 2) would be full with our Frigates and Destroyers, and just the Pompey based squadrons. The Navy's entire fleet could be moored there now.

Do keep in mind that area is in the final throws of £200 million pounds worth of work to ready it for the arrival of our new aircraft carriers. There Is a lot more activity around the corner in the dockyard proper.

I also think more of what capability we have is often put to task. I believe we have less than 25 surface vessels based at Portsmouth. Technology means the face of war has changed. Air plays a major part even to the extent of moving troops and resource which might traditionally have been done over water.

You still see a varied selection of movements in and out of the harbour. You also see vessels being built for export.

Henry :)

Excellent photos.

Gosport in general is a brilliant place to tie up, for all the reasons mentioned above.

Haslar Marina is the cherry on top of it, I've overwintered here and sad to be leaving next week.

Completely correct.

I've just cycled through Royal Clarence en route back from the pub and was surprised to see a throng of people. The former G's has finally been replaced by Victualers. Even Reds was buzzing. Could critical mass finally have reached RC? I do hope so, architecturally it's wonderful. We looked at the flat directly above the restaurant the doors opening out onto the marina but in the end we're won over by the views from our current bolt hole.

My new boat is on the Essex coast today but will move her to RC over the next couple of weeks. I think it's one of the most under rated marinas

Henry :)

Yes, nice one Henry.

The perfect post for April 1st. :)

Got any more? Did you see the one about the polar bear spotted in Scotland?

I like the flat up top above the restaurant ( the one with the doors that open outwards). I so wish we could all return to the days of Victorian construction they built things to last but that's never gonna happen. Those gorgeous big white houses in the crescent at RC would have been for one family back then, not now, all apartments

And there was I looking back at your Tower on Saturday and thinking I wonder if H was at home, no I thought weather too good would be on EJ.

The real EJ was completely sting in a gym competition in Southampton so I was home alone. We did manage a couple of days at the end of the week though so hi here were lovely.

It was a lovely flat. About £350k from memory but only 1 unallocated parking space so a no go. I wasn't going to buy into something knowing there would be ever tightening parking problems as the site got built on. They also missed a huge opportunity in not offering moorings with the flats. They could have cleaned up. Look what property in Port Solent can fetch. 2 allocated Parking spaces and a 15m plus mooring would have made a huge difference to our thought process. I think it would also have spurred on non residential activity. People would have travelled a long way to buy a property that would house their boat as well.

We are third boat along C and so directly in-line and close enough to everyone sat outside Victualers to hear the conversations, and yesterday I had an audience as I came back in single handed, HW too so almost at eye height to them all. If you'd hung around a bit longer you could have grabbed my lines Henry. Luckily I was (for once) inch perfect ;)

We actually went back later as a family to eat at the Victualers but unfortunately they were just closing at 7.00pm. Not ideal but presumably they know what they are doing. Their website is absolutely crap when viewed on an iPad or iPhone, The lettering is almost impossible to read being too dark against a black background. Someone's trying to be too cool for school......

I have been a harsh critic of Solent food. I have found very little to get excited about to be honest. I do like the Haven at Lymington and on the Rocks in Yarmouth is not bad ( if you call that cooking which I don't) but for me Bembridge and just getting your own fresh seafood from that shack in the river is as good as it gets for me
