Glorious Gosport !

I want venues to succeed particularly in RC. G's was a total waste a a great venue but leaving aside the freakish fit out Reds actually served some good food.

I shall give the new ventures a try & do so with an open mind. We went into Arty's (they seem to have taken over Reds) when it was in the old carvery pub, right hand side leaving Gosport. Another wasted opportunity the carvery used the cheapest over cooked ingredients in an attempt to get the price down as opposed to delivering delicious food. Arty's was, err, odd ! A cross between a pub, crèche, junk shop and pizza joint.

A couple of Saturdays ago, lovely morning, quite a few families around and people sitting on their boats enjoying the sun in RC.

We went into Artys at 11.30 for a coffee ... sorry we're not serving until 12.00 !

OK, so we wandered up to the Victualers and they were just about to run out of milk!

Having said that the coffee was good but I went to pick up a menu to see what was on offer and promptly put it back down. I saw at least 3 beer ring stains on it and the next 2 weren't much better.

And just one over-worked bar staff/waitress.

Could do better.

Glorious Gosport my a##e. The racket coming from the Vicuallers pub in Clarence Yard has been non stop for days. They seem to have a 'live music' festival going on every afternoon and of an evening the drunken revellers row can be heard till 4AM. Since the licensee put those rickety converted pallets in the public square with a notice saying for customers only, there's been endless noise going on across the marinas. The afternoon Easter music event seems to be an 'open mic' type event with multiple talentless and tuneless renditions coming loudly for all to hear, drowning out any on board music and completely shattering the peaceful setting.

I love to hear live music but not to have it broadcast across the areas where people come for peace. Even the Northerly we had today did little to blow the sound away. None of the songs are 'cover versions' so nothing to recognise,, many sang in a monotone with occasional shouting for emphasis. Why he can't hold this indoors I don't know. I'd hate to be living in the flats above, it must be torture. I was in the entertainment business for several decades and would not have been able to get a PPL to broadcast this loud.

Gosport Council Environmental Health have only an emergency line for after midnight nuisance and phoning 101 brings only platitudes of emailing the Council next week. I'm cutting short my weekend as there's no escape from the row, even in the cabin.

Re Corky's post. Sounds like my idea of marina hell. We are up on the east coast. But that will make me review RC when we return in a few weeks time. Am out of contract in August, good thing is that empty berths available in nearly all marinas these days so it's a non issue will just go somewhere else but will look to stay in Portsmouth, no drama Obama

Hopefully the Council, the building leaseholders or the licensing authority will have him out with the number of complaints going in. Shame really because it's handy to have a bar there.

Seems like you would better off in happy Haslar to RC ? Lovely and peaceful at LYmington yacht haven btw but doubt any space in local restaurants this evening.

Perhaps......and we did almost go to Haslar. I do like the place. But as before there are empty berths everywhere so I am not fussed. Feel sorry for anyone on a long term contract as that note re RC made me cross for the poor bloke who has to put up with that. It's not fair

We have been in Haslar for over 10 years now. Lovely and peaceful, straight in and out from / to the Solent.

If you do decide to try Haslar let me know, I think I can get you a discount and earn myself some brownie points come renewal next year.

We've tried to eat at the Victuallers twice now and failed. I know they were having a season opening event this weekend but there's no way they should be playing music outside that late. I would speak to their landlord as well as the council. It's slap bang in the middle of a residential area !
