I've had a Glomex Marine Master TV antenna fitted.
Anyone got experience of them ? Good reception ?
I've never had or even watched TV on a boat before.

(It's been fitted on boat but I've not taken delivery yet. I'm just wondering what to expect)

And what is the twisty knob thing that comes with it for ?

i think the knob is to adjust the gain, ive got a status on mine that works great everywhere except our marina! we've now switched to satellite which once you've got the hang of adjusting it is brill. well swmbo says so anyway /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Errrr. Don't know. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I've always been a bit spontaneous. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Been lucky so far. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Maybe only time will tell. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

It is my 3rd boat from the same supplier though so I think I'm safe.

...haven't got a spare, have you? I've got a Glomex and it's a bleedin lottery which channels I get.
My USB digital TV with little rubber duck for the laptop is better . /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Sorry for being technologically challenged /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
But what's with this "USB digital TV with little rubber duck for the laptop" ?

I'm guessing the the USB digital TV is a TV card that plugs into your laptop. So what is the rubber duck /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

My new Nimbus 280 was delivered with the Antenna fitted when built. It did not work here in Cobbs Quay (Poole) So, the agents arranged for their electronics guy to check it out - his judgment was that it was "duff". So a Glomex was fitted - that does not drive our 'Digital Box" either! Neither would it while tied up in Weymouth. Worked perfectly when we took the boat back to Lymington however!

I inquired about TV reception in the marina office today. The reply was that it was very variable - poor on our pontoon, but OK next door in Davis's Yard.

I've also been trying a satellite outfit today. No success so far. This is with the dish at ground level at the edge of our finger berth. Problem might be due to the fact that it is a Lidl 'camping' outfit - much more chance I feel if we could use a larger dish. I seem to recall reading that there is a supplier for these, and they should work on boats - while moored in a settled place anyway! Anyone know anything?

This is the man.
All you need to know about satellite TV here http://www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk/

I use the Multimo see here - about a third of the way down the page http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page17.htm
I know of others that use this dish.

Other forumites have also used the Dreambox receiver in place of a Sky Box but a standard Sky Digibox works well with the Multimo dish - I also use a Satellite finder (a little box that squeels when it sees the satellite)

Forgot to add - I have a Glomex with that little twiddly thing (attenuator or something - doesnt seem to do much).
However, the system works well on digital and analogue.
Analogue is always a bit fuzzy though.

I am always fuzzy on analogue, just use the digi box £29 from Tesco's /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I must say when I have played with my knob whilst watching it didn't seem to make any difference either /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Mine works fine as long as there are no yachty masts in the way. 3 different TV antenas on my last 3 boats and all worked reasonably well - when not surounded by masts. Conclusion therefore - If you want good TV recieption, stay away from yachties. The wiggly Knob in UK does nothing, but full gain in Calais lets you pick up UK TV.

Thanks for comments. Learned something about twiddling the knob.

As a result of one reply on this post I've been looking at those Freeview USB thingies that plug into a laptop. One from Novatech seems to get rave reviews & is very cheap.

So I am now looking into getting a biggish laptop so I can watch freeview TV, DVD's & get online as well.

firstly get a small satellite dish from towsure fix it to radar arch source a sky digibox (can get 12v ones) then just take your sky viewing card from home, we get a 100% picture always. personally i wouldnt bother with the hassle but if swmbo didnt have it, i'd haveto talk to her!!
