... We've also always had a car-stereo on our boat with no problems. I'm actually currently planning to install an additional amplifier and a 10 in subwoofer. I'm not planning an outdoor disco, but quality sound when in marina.

The above is a quote from a Mobochat thread on the huge complexities of fitting a car stereo into a boat.

Apart from physically encouraging the inmates of such a vessel to desist from audio pollution, what steps would forumites take if they found themselves berthed adjacent to such an audiophile.

(My excuse for venturing onto the virtual darkside is a knee op and extreme boredom!)

i think it's best to have giant amplifiers and subwoofers as well. Massive engine blowers too worked very well once in encouraging people to turn their own noise down. Turn it all on, then go off for lunch. That usually sorts them out.

like tcm says, put put your giant output out through tinny reedy speakers, with loads of treble in and a heap of distortion. Results even quicker then.

Says he, with a 400w preamp and a 12" sub woofer, big enough to make your ears bleed. I dont use marinas much, and keep the peace when I do.

In my camping days I used to keep a Thelonius Monk tape specifically for these eventualities. Whenever assaulted by loud music from adjacent tents, I used to put this tape into my tape player, stand the player on the roof of the car and turn it up loud. Thelonius Monk is not everyone's cup of tea and it rarely took very long for the message to get through. Peace was then restored.

Simple:

1) Ask them to turn it down. If unsuccessful then...

2) Call the marina office and ask them to do something about it

In my experience, noisy and inconsiderate customers have always turned it down when the berthing master has asked them to. If there is a problem then "But you have agreed to our Terms and Conditions" does the trick. So far.... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Why not take their shore power line out .... they'll soon run the batteries down /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

That won't work, the generator will kick in. And then you're left with music competing with the drone of a small engine.

I like the wetsuit, aqualung and drill approach.

Yes - I find I have to turn the volume up to down out the engine of the raggie making his hot water for the morning, or charging his batteries......

Your not alone, that annoys most of us!

Its not just in a marina, tell me about how sound travels across open water in an anchorage! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

glad it's not just me!

Whats the form for this, would it be permissable to board the offending boat (with cutlass between teeth, jack sparrow style of course!) and secure said ropes?
They must damage the mast/fittings, so you'd be doing the owner a favour.....

Ropes? You wont find any "ropes" on my yacht! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Its okay, if Mitch had been on your yacht all you would have to do is follow the trail of Pork Pie crumbs. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I was waiting for that...... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Suprised it took so long /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Oi!! that's not nice you are supposed to be on my side!!
Latest Trick is a pie free zone now!! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
And any crumbs I did leave behind would be lost amongst the fray bentos remnants left on the deck of the raggies. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
