Gill Boots

gill rubber boots

Hi all I got a pair of gill boots three yrs. ago just before winter.I wore them once or twice and when spring came and sailing started found they had cracked seems.Shop changed them. Inner lining came off, back to shop another pair.Wore them that season on a few occasions ,next spring cracked again .Back to shop they reported to Gill , back came a new pair last summer. No leaks so far but sure are stiff and unconfortable..I have an old pair I bought in Carrickfergus boat sale over12yrs ago made by COMMON,they look **** now and have only started to leak would that I could get another pair of them.Gill ****.

As you can see from my vids I wear Gill tall boots. On my second pair in 8 years. I walk to the boat from the house (about 1/4 mile at the moment). I keep them in the garage, which is dark. I wonder if it's light that damages other peoples?
Hmmm.... I keep mine in a dark cupboard.

My thanks to Mr McCulloch, the only one who has made any attempt to actually answer the question, ...
...Anyway, I joined the split seam with Superglue, added a hypalon patch and they appear to again be waterproof after paddling ashore and launching the Redcrest once - but for how long?...
Oops, sorry. Never bothered to try to repair them as they have usually split on a natural crease and so any repair will fail. Not worth the bother in my opinion. I do however use them on the big boat until the soles wear out as you don't usually get your feet wet by standing in water and the waterproof trousers cover any leaks.

It is now 2 months since I wrote the OP and I am again a happy laddie, as far as dry feet are concerned anyway. I took the advice of the forum and contacted Gill with pictures of the offending boots - they said send them back; I said I can't 'cos I need them, even if they leak a bit, they're better than deck shoes; they said that's ok, if you promise to destroy them and send a picture of the bits; then followed a discussion about stock of the right size ending up with me debiting my card and upgrading to a pair of breathable, leather look-alike yins at a very reasonable reduction in price.

So, well done Gill! None of the "proof of sale", "you shouldn't have tried to repair them" or any other get-out - they just got on with it. Thank you.

Still trying to find Stockholm Tar.

I find my Gill boots work as expected. I went for the shorter version, which are OK for going ashore from an inflatable (most of the time).
I don't try folding them over and they live out the sun most of the time.
The only leak I have had was up inside my trousers and over the top- when wrestling a no1 genny to submission at the bow in rough seas. Not a fair test - but they dry out easily!
Is the combination of Stockholm Tar and feet in any way medicinal :D ???

I think mine are Gill or alike. Work perfectly fine and put up with everything. However, they get bleedin' warm on your feet and i'm glad to take them off when I can.

My feet like to breathe and wellies are not great for that.

The lining is now comming away from the outer layer.

I must have been lucky with my choice of boots. I reckon I have had them for 25 years , at least.

Made, as you can see, by Nokia. The people who now make mobile phones!

Hi again the boots I mentioned in an earlier post having seen little use last year and only 3 or 4 times this year (April) are showing a serious crack along a seam at the ankle. So after 3 / 4years and 3or 4 pairs my vote for GILL BOOTS is 0. ****.
