What you say in you post means that your family were spanish not so long time ago. Is not so?

About the rest of nonsense in yur post I will keep quiet. I will not go into a polemic discussion about your lack of knowledge and education.

All the best and merry Xmas.

No, not Spanish, no. Austro Hungarian - British descent.

I don't enter silly circular discussions for the sake of it.

I deal in documented facts and irrefutable supportable evidence recorded in history and in current affairs, plus everything in mainstream in living memory. All of these are accumulated through 3 centuries of having you lot as neighbours. That's it.

Therefore your decision to keep quiet from now on is a wise one and the best course of action for you to take.

Merry Xmas.

We have to be grateful to the Almighty for lots of things.

Yesterday saw the arrival by private jet to North Front, Gibraltar, of Kaiane Aldorino, elected Miss Gibraltar 2009, then Miss Europe 2009 and finally Miss World 2009.

The day before was cloudy, overcast with sporadic drizzle.

Yesterday all that disappeared and the sun and the blue sky came out in all their glory and the temperature rose.:D

Our own Miss World returned wearing the crown and dressed in red wearing the winner's sash in contrasting white (which are the Gibraltar colours).

The moment she stepped off the aircraft the crowd went wild with happiness.

After being greeted personally by the Chief Minister she then stood in an open car preceded by a police escort and the Band of The Royal Gibraltar Regiment for a confetti / ticker tape parade all the way from the airport.

This victory procession proceeded through Glacis, into Main Street, up to Cathedral Square, then Line Wall Road and up to the balcony of the City Hall, where preceded by two local tenors who sang songs to keep the waiting crowd entertained, interspersed with "We are the Greatest"and other pop music.

The crowds were huge. It looked like the whole of Gibraltar had turned out, throwing confetti, waving flags, blowing trumpets, cheering and clapping.

Finally she appeared on the balcony.

The crowd cheered, clapped, and roared their approval at the same time that tons of red and white confetti showered we don't know from where but it did, plus thousands of red and white balloons were released. Everyone was covered, hair, clothes, everywhere.

The joyous atmosphere was electric. People were hysterical with excitement.
The roar and applause of the crowd was deafening.

We have somethinjg similar every year on Gibraltar National Day, but I have not seen an outpouring of happiness of this magnitude since the arrival of Prince Charles and Diana when they had just got married and chose Gibraltar to start their honeymoon on The Royal Yacht Britannia.

Our beautiful Miss World then said a few words and waved and blew kisses.

The crowd just would not let her go, so she had to say some more. The crowd could not get enough of her. Then She introduced her family, her sisters, just as beautiful.

The crowd roared, the band played.

Finally she withdrew, as a cocktail party had been arranged.

But the organiser of the contest, Julia Morley's assistant, explained that they had done their duty in returning our beatiful girl home, safe.

He added that in 40 plus years of the competition, never had the organisers experienced a welcome of this magnitude and intensity, ever. The crowd roared and clapped and waved flags and cheered.

She was then whisked off to the Rock Hotel for a reception.

Waiting there amongst others were the previous 40 plus Miss Gibraltars of the past. I can tell you they are as attractive today as when they were winners in the past.

In my opinion, the election of a Miss World from a Miss Gibraltar candidate was inevitable, and just a matter of time, as we have here truly stunnunig women.

Probably, this is due to the mixture of races and the blending of peoples so unique to Gibraltar.

So yesterday was a beautiful and memorable day for everyone here.

Today there is thunder and lightning, the sky is crowded with heavy clouds and there are heavy showers.

We thank the almighty for giving us this ray of sunshine when Miss World, and indeed all of us here needed it.:D

We were watching at the Ship in Marina Bay. There was great rejoicing, and this from mostly non residents. Delightful. Well done Gib.

I was out in that horrible blast about 2 ish today, that rain hurt! 40 odd knots.

Glad to be back in and I had marmite on toast for breakfast this morning in Ceuta!

I forgot to mention the beautiful fireworks disply last night at the Detached Mole at 9 P.M...brief but gorgeous.:D

Now tonight a huge CB has passed overhead releasing tons of water on the Rock and hailstones rattling against the windows.

Its just a cold front...it will pass soon enough and the sun will come out again with a :D

Hey old man, is Jack Peate still around?

As expected, the huge CBs have drifted away early this morning, opening the skies to brilliant sunshine again and a steady breeze....:D

Jack Peate ? I will make enquiries for you and let you know.
Much obliged,
Stu

"the politics of envy."

This retort invariably only ever appears when the poster has run out of arguments and feels that invective must surely win the day :)

No, you are wrong, oldgit.

You have the wrong end of the stick, you see ?

The statement you make is the result of having experienced envy, that corrosive gnawing destructive sentiment which is directed at others for whatever reason.

The politics of envy refer to being the target of envy, which is a very different proposition indeed, with which you are obviously not familiar.:)

Sorry that I have to poke my nose in here but, VO5 you cannot be for real! I have visited many a time and quite enjoyed it, but you sir, have to be one tongue in cheek troll. you cannot be for real, as a troll you fail miserably because quite a lot of peeps know the score seemingly better than you!
However , I take my hat off to you, as far as the Incredible bul****ting Man is conserned, you win hands down:)

Self parody seems to be a talent of VO5, the last few posts take the biscuit. Interesting, since he 'outed' himself as a long term Gibraltarian, he must have know about the drug running (and who was involved) but chose to side step the question as a 'Spanish problem'

Yes, that is because you haven't a clue either.

We had an incident a few days ago in which the Spanish Patrol Boat chased a rib with two young men on board right into Gib harbour and then disembarked and chased them into the town.

The vessel and the crew were detained and later released.

The two young men in the rib were caught and handed over to the Spanish authorities.

The two young men in question were Spaniards, from Galicia.

They were involved in gun running and drugsmuggling into the Spanish mainland, and again, nothing to do with Gibraltar.

The incident occured because finding themselves being chased they thought they would take refuge here.

The Spanish patrol gave chase because they were wanted, although on this occasion they were found not to be carrying anything when the rib was inspected.

That's it.

Pardon me for poking my oar in but have I stumbled upon a time warp? Edmundo Ros? Miss World? Whitewall tyres?

A time warp ? No, not necessarily, but there again trivia like this serves to wind up people like you, who have nothing of merit or interest to contribute to this thread but vapid comment for the sake of it.:p

If you are going to post, please, post sense, and avoid contradicting yourself in the same paragraph, its not clever. And while you are at it, a few lessons in English Grammar and Spelling would not go amiss. For my part, I don't like to see the English language murdered, even if you do.:D
