You misunderstand the process. It’s not a popularity contest it’s a well documented process that just needs various conditions to be met, and the population to vote in favour.
We’d have to join the Euro and Schengen as rules have changed but aside from that it could be a fairly simple and quick process.

Very positive step allowing frictionless trade for those that live there. One of the many obvious consequences of the vote the UK took.

As the RYA head of legal said on a call to clubs at the time, if your dream for retirement is lazily cruising the Med, get another dream.

Then why did you add your blatantly political third sentence in post #3.

The head of the Gibraltar government is better placed than us to decide what is best for Gibraltar.

I probably do. I was a long way away when the original separation happened, as I remain, and, as is not unusual with this kind of "peoples choice" thing, I found it a bit hard to believe.

So you are saying the EU has no role in deciding whether the UK gets to rejoin them?

I find that a bit hard to believe too, but I've clearly been wrong before.

Nevertheless, I think at my age I would be kidding myself if I thought a change in UK status was going to rescue me or my boat from any of its adverse consequences

Schengen rules can be overridden with long term visitor visas. These are offered by France.

Of course better if we got the same visitor's rights as EU gets to GB.

The failure in negotiation was by Lord Frost.

Barnier offered the UK a 180/365 deal, as this is the basis on which the UK treats, visitors, but he refused it on the basis that he might have to make some concession as a quid pro quo.
