So lets get this right? You are expecting someone to flight out to Gib on a single ticket, sail your yacht to Baiona in Spain and then get another flight back to the UK and pay for all the connecting transport costs, buses taxi?

Perhaps you are paying all costs and need to tell any prospective crew that the trip is all found? :)

Yes thats correct, crew will have to pay their own travel costs. Thats quite normal.
It only seems to be this forum where I receive " smart" comments like this, Places have been advertised in other crew seeker forums & no problems there.
Perhaps it just that your using your posts to advertise your own business ???

Not a smart answer in the slightest, it was the fact that you just forgot to mention anything about costs and any interested parties would need to know these things and all the costs involved. A single ticket to Gib and another single ticket for the return flight in NW Spain would certainly not be a cheap method of travel.

But Hey-Ho, ripping people off is one method of offering sailing. I suppose 30 years in the motor trade taught you a lot?

And no, I don't use the forums to run a business.

If you dont use your posts to promote your business take off the link at the bottom of your posts then.
Actually the costs to Gib & getting back from Baiona are less than £200 when I booked my tickets, so not a fortune.
How many crew on the ARC do you think are paid crew with all expenses paid or just have their travel expenses paid, very few !!!!
Many people even pay to do this type of trip, I really dont understand why you think thats ripping people off, that they have to pay their own expenses, ie travel etc.
If I was looking for professional crew who I have to pay I wouldnt be using this site.

I guess what your saying then is that anyone with a boat who wants crew has to pay their travel expenses then, whether on the South coast or in another country ?

As for my business, you know nothing about that, Actually I am one of the honest ones, if you had done your homework properly would you see that I have been approved & vetted by the local trading standards office.

A couple of constructive suggestions to the OP: It`s just so much more straightforward, and easier for everybody, if you write: "crew pay for their own travel to and from the yacht" to start with!
Otherwise it sounds fishy,as if you have something to hide which I`m sure you don`t. How about a few details of the yacht, the skipper, the passage plan? Potential crew are concerned about things like this and feel uneasy if they have to tease the details out of you,and I think your terse approach might be offputting to some.
Good luck with your trip Jerry.

I do understand what you have said. Crew paying there own travel is mostly the norm though.
I did enjoy the banter with Lenseman though !!!
I find it easier not to give too many details out, then run through with people when they get in contact.
So far has worked perfectly well mostly on other forums though.
All other legs are full & as said just 1 needed for this one.
But as you ask, The skipper is a YM ocean with comm endorsement, the Yacht is a Alan Pape 50+ foot long keeled Ketch blue water cruiser so more than capable of a quick hop back from the Med.

I have done quite a few deliveries as an unpaid crew as it is a way of getting out of England in mid winter. I have always had my travel and on board costs covered and would never do it otherwise. I don't go out for a pleasure cruise and if someone expects me to stay awake between midnight and 3 a.m I don't expect to have to pay for the privilege.

I agree with Lenseman.

There are loads of sailors looking to build miles who will pay there own way, I don't think it is too unusual.

I do it as a way of gaining experience on different boats. I tend to avoid trips that include booking flights at both ends as it is awkward to predict arrival times. If it involves some sun though in a dreary winter then it is worth it. I took the spring/summer off work and plan to do a mixture of coastal trips on my boat and long trips on other boats where I pay for the travel.

The alternative is to pay for places on a commercial boat which is going to cost a lot more.

On an ocean going yacht why not do Gib to UK in one go, it is only a couple of weeks at most?

It seems that on these forums a few people have found all expenses paid trips, however I wonder what experience levels they are ? If I was going to cover expenses I would only then take on very experienced people.
As it is crew paying their expenses, I can take on varying levels from comp crew up and then make sure all watches at night are doubled up with someone experienced, whilst I am not an instructor I am also willing to teach anyone what I can as well, making the trip a very valuable learning experience.
I guess part of it comes down to the boat as well, some boats I have been paid to go on, have been in an awfull state and if I hadnt been paid I would have walked off.
In fact last year myself and 2 other crew did exactly that, we walked off an unsafe boat.
I think my origonal add was fine, it was short and sweet, if you want more info please contact me !!!
Still find it odd that its only YBW forums that I have come under fire for my adds, I had a previous one before the forum changed as well.
All the other adds I have in crew finder type forums are fine ????
