We are considering buying a Gib Sea 96 (1985) and as there are not a lot in North America are having trouble getting information on seaworthiness, handling and durability. We sail on the West Coast of Canada and have over 10 sailing experience with our C&C 27. We are looking at this boat as a suitable candiate to sail for a couple more years here out west and then possibly truck to the East Coast to sail down the InterCoastal waterway to the Carribbean. Any information that can be provided would be appreciated.

I have sailed a Gibsea Master 96 for some years now and would have to admit it is one of the nicest boats you could ever own. It is very strongly constructed, points well, is reasonably fast down wind and is one of those boats which gives you a feeling of being safe, even in a bit of a blow. The boat has furling genoa, slab reefed main, Yanmar 2GM20 engine (6-7 knts) at mid range revs, tiller steering. All-in-all an easy boat for 2 to handle. Hope this is of some help, best of luck
