getting supplies without paying to moor

Rowhedge?

No one's mentioned Rowhedge up the Colne yet.
Two waterside pubs, with meals, and the Co-op less than 100 metres up the road.
There's a pontoon that will take an average sized boat or you can lie to the wall and dry out.
I believe that honesty requires you search out the warden and pay, but for shopping and a pint or two ................?

Great thread! Is there anywhere on the Deben where you can go alongside? We intend to visit in Aug and intend to anchor somewhere overnight but would prefer to avoid a dinghy trip (wet bum) to get milk and showers...

Jon

Felixstowe mooring,dinghy,bus to town
Woodbridge, anchor down river,dinghy
as has been stated alongside the dock or tidemill short stayu

For complete accuracy, ONE pub with meals, second pub excellent real ale, and when the Co-op is closed there's a Premier store as well

Jon, The Deben's a great little river to sail (we live at Felixstowe) but there are few places to come alongside apart from the Tidemill. You can pick up a mooring at Waldringfield or Ramsholt for £5 donation to the RNLI but no showers or shops. Best bet is to anchor at the 'Rocks' for a quiet night onboard but then head to Woodbridge for fuel/food/showers etc...have a good one!

Fox's allowed us to stay for free for a couple of hours, we radio'd in and said we wanted to pick up a couple of things and ended up staying for lunch there too. They were very good about it, I was prepared to pay a few squids but they weren't bothered at all. I did spend some money at the chandlery so perhaps that seems fair, like getting a couple of hours free parking at a supermarket if you buy a few things from them.

Foxs Chandlery sells some basic provisions as well as most bits for your boat should you need them. Off site, there is also a 'corner shop' just by the Shell garage on Bourne Bridge (visible from the marina), which sells most things (and the garage sells some basics too) and if there is no food available at the yacht club, there is a beefeater over the road .

Good thread, top gen.. Queenborough landing stage only charge for overnight stops. Post office and a couple of grocers/off licences 300 yds. If it is in the catchment area that is?

The only time we tried a pick-up at Shotley's jetty was almost a disaster as it was blowing a bit and it proved very hard to get a burly non-sailing bloke safely off while the boat was bobbing about.

No ones mentioned Burnham it must be an easy stop for provisions and what a great place for a visit.

There is the town key..

Also the Marina.. .. I think their T&C's require payment overnight.. that does mean that in theory an afternoon stop for provision (and a lot of supplies at the Swallowtail) is FOC????

Dont forget the Orford shop & the butcher

I haven't forgotten it. I well remember carrying our then 2 yr-old daughter who told me it her favourite place in the world. Her boy-friend proposed to her at the castle a good many years later.

Wivenhoe Sailing Club at high water will give you enough time to go ashore for an hour or two. There are shops near the waterfront and a decent Co-op just up the hill. Visitors are more than welcome.
