Over the past few years I have enjoyed several very special holidays and corporate events afloat in tropical and some not so tropical locations and have always promised myself that when the time was right I would love to own my own boat. My starting question is with a sensible budget of up to £300,000 what would you guys recommend as a soundish investment that will impress my clients and create a good impression without being seen as flash. For instance I could afford to spend a lot of money on a car but choose to drive a Range Rover as I believe this shows my clients respect when handling their money. Apart from being my pride & joy the boat will be a work tool and I would love some opinions before looking further and getting baffled by salesmen.

Regards
Greg

I'd take a good look at MacGregor 26s if I was you. Excellent value for money, and not too flashy... very much in line with your post above.

Welcome to the Forum, interesting question, coming from an angle that probably would not normally be in the equation. Budget apart, what are you trying to achieve? To go Sailing or Motorboating? or to provide a floating businesss environment?. Either way, you will require the basic boat handling skills otherwise your clients are not likely to be impressed! Suggest you go and find out that which you find most appealing, before you part with your cash.

Re: First post.

Sorry guys, I heard from a friend that this was a friendly site with lots of good information, looks like I was wrong!

Now I understand to many that £300,000 is a lot of money, but looking around it doesn't seem to get too much for your money when it comes to a proper power boat. My question was worded so that you would hopefully read it as genuinely meant. The boat will primarily be used for office work, and save me buying a larger apartment or house especially when clients come to visit and possibly needing to stay over which is a problem with my current flat. Many expenses can be offset through my business and it all makes sense to me. If I had visited a site saying I had £300,000 to spend on an office or apartment would you have given the same replies?

I have recently sold one of two apartments I bought in London 10 years ago and have made an amount of money that now affords me the luxury of a boat/floating office.

PS my Range Rover is now four years old so not particuarly flash and bought second hand, but it does have a private plate to hide the age. I suppose you will take the mick out of that now, but it was only to hide the age, and not something silly to look like my name / business name.

Any serious answers?

This post is not meant to be unfriendly, but I think you may have inadvertantly arrived at the wrong destination? Try the Mobo forum..........

They will I am sure welcome you with open arms.......

Re: First post.

My friend who assured me there were many knowledgable and friendly posters here has a Sealine T46 so why I am I made to feel an outcast?

My budget of £300,000 was only stated as it is what my apartment sale has left me, if I could find a boat for £150,000 that will serve the purpose I have described I would be a happy chappy, but I will be living on this boat for at least 4-5 nights a week and will need 3-4 cabins for visiting kids at weekends and holidays so it may not be feasible.

If anyone can point me in the www. direction of a better site to visit I will go take a look, thanks.

Re: First post.

There are people here who own boats worth over £300K. There are also people with boats worth less than 1% of that figure. I have never seen anyone criticised for their wealth or lack of it.

But the question you ask is totally impossible to answer. You want an investment, a place for clients to stay the night, a object to impress clients with your sober good taste. None of these are remotely reasons for buying a boat or a description of a type of boat. Your only criterion appears to be a rather large lump of money to throw at it.

This is indeed an incredibly helpful and well informed forum. Give them something to go on.

Re: First post.

If you are genuine then great............ It looks like you are trying to find a motor boat then here is the wrong place.

No offence intended but PBO is practical baot owner, which should mean that they nearly build the boats they are on (out of bits of string etc)

Try Motor boat site they should and will be more friendly.

BTW Welcome don't be put off all new members are welcome
