I am going to have to change the name of the boat and quite fancy mocking up some nice atwork for the transom. Does anyone know of a firm who might be able to transfer a JPeg file (or some such) to a vynl transfer?
Talking of sign-writing and artwork, does anyone know anything about styles of fonts?
I am trying to find the name of the font that has 'black' letters with chamfered corners.
The font is usually 'raised' such that it seems to cast a shadow (drop-shadow) which is always 'white' in colour, and to the right and slightly below the black letter.
I seem to think it was once used for US Navy craft but an extensive search (google) of such ships doesn't come up with anything?
Can anyone name the font or tell me where I can see it on display please? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Have you tried going through all the fonts in Word, and seeing which is closest. Once you know which 'family' the font is in, it will be much easier to identify.
Try http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
Upload a jpg (a screenshot or a scanned image will do) - there are instructions on the web page about size, resolution etc.- and it will search through it's database.
Blissford Signs (Near Fordingbridge) Will, I'm sure, be able to do it for you....
Blokes name is Peter Sheriff...
Sorry phone number escapes me but can pm it to you if you wish...( Bournemouth phone book)

Drop shadows are usually generated by the graphics program.
there is a neat program called fontmatcher which is a free download which can match a jpeg image of a font to ones loaded on your computer.
From memory I think the font you might be after is called "machine", or it was on Macs, don't know the wintel version. Drop shadow made by the software.
Thank you everyone for your help but I think Seagreen was closest with his suggestion of 'ITC Machine' font even though I still have been unable to find any downloads or images of this font without having to pay. Usually there is a freeware download site.
Since looking, I did find some other person looking for similar but in numbers only:
As the others said any local sign maker. The "Signman" in Kendal did mine for Slippy.
Just tell him it's for a boat and they'll do it on vehicle vinyl which has a low-tack carrier backing which just peels of when you've positioned the name. You can use the edge of the backing to align the name.
