Getting Afloat series now on YouTube

Nice programmes, seemingly untouched by the tellywankers' normal urges to avoid any practical information (uninteresting to them personally, and assumed to be too complex for their audience) and to turn everything into a cliffhanger challenge or race against time (I honestly have no idea why they do this one).

I've watched all five that are up already - how many more are there for us to look forward to?

+1. This series was informative and educational, presented in a gentle style. Today's version would be heavily over produced and, as you say, would have the unnecessary, impossible "challenge " of completing the task on some contrived childish premise.

I remember some of the episodes and it's been fun catching up. You fly r/c too. Would love to try slope soaring but I'm in east anglia which is as flat as a pancake so rely on electric power for height. Been doing a lot of fpv in recent years too.

Evening everyone. The latest upload is episode 7, and its all about Pilot Cutters!

Glad you are enjoying them, and I do appreciate the comments, especially as they are nice! It takes about two hours to convert and upload each one, so your enthusiasm is sustaining mine!

Still to come.......Classic racing boats, Coastal cruising, a channel crossing, engines, the Douananez Festival, and the last two episodes are crossing the North Sea from Bergen to Invagordon on a huge Square Rigger!

Rgds,
Nick

Ah, The Channel Crossing, that was my favourite one Nic. I had a copy on tape of that one and playing it this time of year inspired me to start the next seasons work on my wooden boat. Still have the same boat so eagerly await the episode again to work it's magic !

Not sure how I could have missed it first time around but fascinating and how TV factual programmes should be produced. It seems nowadays that every program must have background music that adds absolutely nothing and frequently distracts or obscures the dialogue. And not a drone shot in sight...
Many thanks.

If I could change my "trade" working with wood would be desired one, one regret I have is not doing an apprenticeship and learning the skill from someone. Can you do a series on the downsides of owning wooden boats, as you're making me lust after an old folkboat again, you make it look easy.

Out of interest is Barnaby still working with you, moved onto pastures new, started up himself?

Thank you so very much for re-releasing these episodes Nick. I never got to see them the first go around, really enjoying them . I see you interviewed the same character in the Thames barges episode as Griff Rhys Jones did on a repeat of his series on bbc2 yesterday, ten or fifteen years on, wow! He was still wearing the same neckerchief !

Looking forward to episode 9 onwards, apart from the sailing the boat renovation is great to watch. I have nothing but admiration for your carpentry skills.
